Friday 14th May 2004
Well after yesterday’s horrible day, today
has been the total opposite.
Sarah Cost, the Macmillan nurse (big THANK YOU to
Sarah to whom I will always be in debt for pointing
me in right direction) had given me a flyer on Wednesday,
about the Bradford Head and Neck support group,
which meet on the second Friday of each month; there
was going to be a meeting today. On the spur of
the moment, I decided to go. I am glad I did as
I feel honoured to meet the people I met today,
most have worse problems than I will have. Everyone
made me very welcome, it made me embarrassed to
think I had considered not having treatment. In
particular, I must thank Mike, Trevor and Eddie
for their friendliness and kind words. Just goes
to show how you can be so down, then meeting these
people can put things in perspective.
On my way home, I called to see Tommy a long time
friend who is in Airedale Hospital; he has asthma
and has had a bad bout after a cold but he is coming
out on Monday. Tommy had cancer of the stomach approx
12 years ago and they removed about 70% of his stomach.
He talked about his feelings when he found out he
had had cancer. I now realise eventually that we
all go through the same range of feelings (so you
see, Maurice, you are not going through feelings
everyone else hasn’t).
The cancer support group is something unique and
special. I will always, whether I win or loose my
fight, class these people as some of the bravest
people on earth and feel proud to be associated
with them.
