Not sure if I am a survivor yet but I do feel that I have survived, I have not posted for some time as I found it quite difficult reading other peoples stories. I do feel now that I have recovered from my treatment and if others are going though the same as me there is an end to it all and life does return to normal.

My life is a million miles away from what it was before cancer, not because of the effects of the cancer but my out look on life, I no longer live for work but I work to live. I do things now that in the past I would have said “I will do that one day”. When I first came on this site and read some of the stories I did wonder what lay ahead but I consider myself as lucky as I have a fairly normal life, I can eat OK and taste the food, I do not get any dry mouth problems and any pains I do get in my neck are only minor.

I believe the cancer has made me a more contented person and I am certainly doing more now with my life than before I had cancer, it is a shame the you have to go though so much to see what is important in life.

I have set up a web site as I am raising money for Cancer Research UK. It is www.johnmcvey.co.uk please have a look if you have time.

Hi Johnmac,
I don't have cancer but I am a caregiver for my mom who had tongue cancer, her surgery was 9-8-2006 radiation and chemo starts in 2 weeks for 7 weeks and I'm so glad to hear someone say there is life after all of this because my mom is 69 years old & been thru so much already as this was her 2nd cancer surgery. The 1st one was 6-23-2006 for cervical cancer that had spread. Best luck to you and YES, YOU ARE A SURVIVOR. God Bless ! Chrys
