Hi Johnmac. At first eating was tricky. I had to have my food pureed for the first 6 weeks afterwards but slowly i started eating soft foods then after a little while i was able to eat nearly as good as i did before the op. I eat fine now but still have to stay away from steaks and tough food. You will definately get better at eating as the days go on and i feel for you when you cant eat. Did you have a nasal feed or did you have a peg? I had a peg and i just wanted to pull it out everyday. It was fitted 30th june 2004 and removed 11th november 2004. Hope you keep feeling fine.

Also had first day at work today don't feel too tired which is good. Life seems to be getting back to normal, well as normal as it can be.

Hi Gang. Over the last four weeks i spotted a small looking blister on the right side of my tongue(left side being the flap) and i panicked. I saw my consultant Mr Edge a couple of times and he said there is nothing to be concerned about yet. I hate that word yet. I will be seeing him again in 6 weeks time. I know he is the expert but there is something in the back of my mind saying that it has come back. Am i being Silly, cautious or paranoid?

Hello Russ

Don't underestimate the power of thought. Use it positively - think well but act as necessary.
Someone one said, "be actively calm and calmly active". Hope that makes sense .... Thinking

Best wishes

Well, the 17th March 2006 saw my first year on from finding my lump, 12 months on the pain is going from the tonsil removal, radical neck disection, 36 fractions of radiotheraphy and 3 chemo sessions.

I did my bit for Mouth Cancer Awareness Week, local newspaper, SKY news, local radio.

This Sunday 2nd April sees me run the Cancer research 10k run at Powderham Castle in Devon.

It is a long hard road to recovery, the adage that a week of RT = one month is a fair assessment.

The important thing is to remember that life is a terminal illness, but mouth cancer does not have to be.

This site, the support and help has got me to the stage now when I look forward to each day. I make no illusions that it is not hard but least I am here and will not be suprised if there will be a few tears on Sunday.

Keep attacking and thank you for yor support.

Nigel

You are doing well Nigel - good for you chap.
The consultants usually count it as one year on from the date of your last treatment - usually the last radiotherapy treatment.
I've sent you a pvt message as there are one or two things i'd like to discuss about your treatments.
You are certainly right about the radiotherapy taking it out of you. I'd add another few (or more!)to get over the nervous breakdown too!

cheers - and good luck -Tony

Hello "Hug Man"...

Just wanted to add my thumbs-up to Fran's... that you are A-Okay!

Fran... My husband's cancer follow-ups this week also indicate ALL CLEAR! He is over one year out.

Breathing the sigh of relief...

Fran...

I've also noticed the increase of spouses coming onboard too... It is so awesome.

As much as we suffer right along with our husbands throughout and after their cancer ordeal(s), I almost feel as though I have had it too. (Sometimes I honestly wish it had been me instead of him.)

Does that make sense?

Melanie

Hi Melanie, yes I know exactly what you mean, At times during the treatment all I could do was give as much practical help as I could & learn as much as I could about this horrible Cancer.
However, we should be carefull about what we wish for. 4 weeks after his treatment finished, I was diagnosed with Breast cancer! (My initial reaction was "I dont have time for this!") Luckily , after the Mastectomy I didnt need Chemo/Radiotherapy & 14mths later am again bright eyed & bushy tailed, while he is still suffering from Dry mouth & taste loss.I often think the Gods can be quite malavolent. Sigh
