The first ever "Reel Lives: Cancer Chronicles Film Festival" was held in Geneva at the end of August 2008.

The Best Reportage film, 'The Truth about Cancer' is dedicated to the 9 of 10 people with metastatic cancer who do not survive more than five years. It is relentlessly honest. It records successes - Glivec and childhood cancers - but mostly it challenges the 'Lance Armstrong myth', that if you fight hard enouh and throw enough resources at a problem you will conquer it.

In it, shortly before her death in November 2007, Jamie says, "I thought about the term 'survivor' and there should be some term for people who struggle and don't make it through. I would hate for people to think that those people who didn't survive didn't want to, or didn't have the will to survive."

This thoughtful and well-researched documentary film has already been seen by over 3.5 million viewers on PBS in the U.S. film. It can be viewed online by clicking on the link above.

Another winning film at the UICC Film Festival was "The Art of Living", by Sutapa Biswas for the Cancer Foundation of India. Her film, “The Art of Living”, was based on the story of a tobacco cancer survivor, the painter Sambhu Das, who was diagnosed with
cancer of the larynx in 1998, but never lost
focus on becoming a successful artist.

To view the film (duration: 14' 07"), please click on the link above for the avi format or here for the wav format.

I can see a day in the distant future (obviously not in my life time)when oncologists will look back at this era of cancer therapy reigimens as a practice belonging to the dark ages.
Chemotoxins and radiation have been failing the masses since the mid 50s, and have actually contributed in the acceleration of the death process to hundreds of thousands of cancer patients.
The tragedies exceed the victories by a million to one.
I don't understand why cancer patients are continously being led to the same cliff edge with a failed treatment course.
When will doctors start thinking outside the square?

in response to several members coments, aconre8 has had his rights to post suspended indefinitely for overly promoting his point of view about cancer and its causes in these forums. these forums are not for promoting his point of view. he needs to carry out the debate in a scientific oncology forum, not here.

I started watching "The Truth about Cancer" a few months ago and was going to view 1 or 2 episodes each day but the thread got lost and I forgot about it.

Somehow I resurrected it and finished the series. What a fascinating documentary, and as Dr. J. says, relentlessly honest. Highly recommended.

I didn't realize there was a second recommendation, "The Art of Living," that I plan to watch as well.

Good stuff.

Hi, (Deborah here, posing as Trevor)
I don't know how I have missed this thread but wouldn't have kept it up had I been switched on to it. It's just that I got a chuckle from Liz's brief quip! Great work.
That poster (male?female?) had my hackles up very early in the piece spruiking the benefits of something or other and how it had increased the life expectancy of 'natives' everywhere, including the Australian aborigines. What a load of codswallop. Funny how I got no response when I challenged the claim!
Great work, Dr Joshi. Cut 'em off at the knees at the earliest opportunity I say (but then again, I'm a pacifist!)
