Hi all,

March 2006; my Dad (at age 69) was diagnosed with scc base of tongue and neck nodes. He completed 35 IMRT rads and 3 Cisplatin chemos April to June 2006.

His nodes shrunk 50% and the tumour on tongue was gone. The dr's suggested Neck Dissection.

He had a PET scan at a private clinic (they are not recognized here in Canada) and it was Negative. He declined the surgery.

He lost 50lbs from treatment (had the weight to loose). Got most taste buds back and eats well.

He has edema in the throat; so the scopes and scans show. Otherwise doing very well.

The RO and ENT surgeon agreed to follow up scans every 3 months (CT and or Ultra sound). In Feb there was a bit of miscommunication about a scan; they told us the nodes grew (which they really did not); so my Dad agreed to the surgery. This scared us.

So he had a bilateral ND on March 13 2007. They also did some more biopsy around the throat area and removed the dulap (you know the flappy skin from rad).

Surgery went well. Then by about day 5 his face swelled up and he was having trouble breathing; so the resident dr on staff rushed him back to OR and intubated him and back to ICU. What a scare.

Anyhow he's home and doing well. The results of ND are negative. So he's cancer free! Great news!

He has a lot of swelling. He's eating pretty good.

We are from Canada. My Dad is orginally from Glasgow Scotland.

Cheers and God Bless!

LisaB
