Hello, I'm new here and just got back from getting a biopsy. Had an issue with a red area on my upper palette. I'd like to post a picture I took of my upper mouth but can't figure out how to do it. I searched all over the internet looking for mouth cancer photo's and have not found anything like it. If someone would tell me how to attach a photo I'll post it here to see if it looks familiar to anyone.

Here is my history:

In October while getting my teeth cleaned the dentist noticed an area of concern on my upper palette. I explained that a few days earlier I had damaged my upper mouth when taking a large bite out a huge sandwich made with hard French bread. She had me come back in a few weeks to look again, said it looked fine. Went to the dentist again two weeks ago and she said that area was again red and made an appointment with a oral surgeon so to get it checked out. She also said my lymph nodes were swollen but she was not real concerned because both were swollen. I had injured my finger the day before and had a tetanus shot that may have caused the swelling.

The Oral surgeon looked at it and said to come back in a week, if it was still the same in a he would do a biopsy. That was today, it was the same and he did a biopsy.

I have looked at hundreds of photo's and can not seem to find any thing like my mouth. Its a quarter sized red area with red dots.

Hope it all turns out OK. I can't really comment on your red area. In the three biopsies I've had, two were white areas and one (the big tumour) was a lump.

I'm waiting for the result of a tongue biopsy myself at the moment so I'll keep my fingers crossed for you as well. Let us know how you get.

A little more info about me, I'm 61 and haven't smoked in years, probably smoked for about 12 years total of my life.

Following is a photo I took last night. The red sore is from the biopsy.

Good photo! The tiny pin-prick lesions might be a viral infection causing herpetiform ulcerations. An infection could have been aggravated by trauma from the crusty bread. Generally this takes about two weeks to resolve. Occasionally, these pin-point red spots are seen when excessive suction pressure has been created in the mouth. It doesn't look like a mouth cancer but the biopsy will inform the diagnosis. Let us know what it says.

Thanks for your comment on the photo. It wasn't easy to do. Finally came up with a technique, camera on macro and mini-flashlight pointed to back of throat.

I think there's a strong possibility that (excessive suction) may have caused the red spots. My wife just reminded me that I do this suction thing to clear mucus from my upper throat, especially when I have a cold. Makes a funny noise and drives her nuts. Haven't had a cold recently but did have a runny nose frequently this last month when I was out shoveling snow or skiing. Just did a test and tried gently doing my suction thing and I could really feel the pressure in the area of the biopsy sore.

Have a think, how many have had the forethought to take a pic of their preliminary problems- so not much to compare with. Interesting though. I do hope everything is ok, which I am sure it will be.

Great to hear that you were clear.

Just got home after getting my results and I also was clear. Biopsy showed no sign of anything bad. Today the red area was much better and he agreed that it was probably caused by my creating excessive suction clearing my throat when I was out working or playing in the snow.
