Hi
I'm new here and hopefully someone maybe able to help. I'm 5months out of treatment Rad/chemo for cancer at base of tounge, after the usual side affects started to go I was left with a black tounge which stayed a couple more months, then it went in a few days and I was left with a normal pink tounge, Now my tongue has started to discolour again, is this normal? I don't see my oncologist for another month. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Dr Vinod K Joshi, |

Hello Dave
The (brownish) discoloured tongue is sometimes caused by chlorhexidine (Corsodyl) mouthwashes. Switch to another mouthwash if using this. Also scrub your tongue as crusts can form on top of a dry tongue. Fungal infections can also cause a discoloured tongue (with associated soreness) - if so, this will need anti-fungal treatment. Hope that helps. Best wishes Vinod Disclaimer: Please see your own dentist/doctor for a proper diagnosis as my words should not, in any circumstances, be taken as dental/medical advice.
