I have just been reading "Staffordshire Life" magazine January 2007 issue and found the article about the 10k walk in Hyde Park in November last year. I am a survivor of mouth cancer - diagnosed August 2004 and am keen for it to be more widely known. Like many other sufferers once diagnosed you find out that a lot of people know someone who has had the disease. I am now back at work full time and starting to eat normally and put on some of the weight I lost. My husband, family and friends were all very supportive and the NHS did a great job for me. Did not know about this site at the time of my illness but have been reading some of the messages and recall feeling so ill etc. I know it's hard but I felt it was important to remain positive through the treatment for my sake and my family. I really don't know where the strength came from - as when diagnosed you feel so shocked (I was 41 years old) and a non-smoker, not heavy drinker -there was no reason why I should have the disease at all. Just bad luck. I would like to help others if I can at all with my experience. Sheila | |||
