Hi Carl
After my husband finished his radiotherapy it took about a month for things to settle down but obviously improvements continue all the time after that. Stay strong, and as everyone says, moisturise as much as possible. Take care, Heather. |

Hi there Carl.
I was so surprised at the localised pain after the PEG was fitted. All that discomfort for such a tiny hole!! Only lasted a few days fortunately. Just think about those folks who have abdominal surgery and have to recover from that! Recovery from major RT symptoms may take a month or so. Other symptoms may take a bit longer. cheers Carl - All the best - Tony K |

Hi Tony,
The day my peg was inserted was a day of misery as the pain while inserting it was worse then any pain I could imagine at that moment. My peg was inserted just after my tracheostomy and hence without any kind of anesthesia or pain suppreser. The worst, however, was when I had as you mentioned an abdominal surgery. As it is my intake of food had become limited and just as things were going okay - I landed up with peritonites and that really created havoc as giving oxygen through the tracheostomy was a problem, my weight dropped down to a level where operating on me did not seem very feasable and then dehyderation set in - and so badly that one could just peel the skin of my entire body. The doctors had no option but to go ahead with operating as if they did not - I was a dead duck but if they did, though I was not in a good condition for the same there would be a slim chance that I would survive. Well, I survived the same and very soon came back to my original weight. However, the one month in ICU was really a nightmare and I was on pain killers as though they were going out of fashion. I think that was one of the most painful experiences I went through though not the most- most painful ones on other ocassions. Talking of recovery after RT and chemo - I was travelling on the very next day after my last bout with the RT - however with an ample amount of xyalocaine (local anesthesia spray) and water to get the food down. The peg came in slightly later - you could read more about it on the main page - Ananths story. Hey Carl- you are doing fine. Another four RTs -will go by in a flash. Take care about your diet though regarding downing solid food - thats just a suggestion as each of us have different bodys and immunities. Till later, Ananth Live on your beliefs and strength- and you will become immortal. |
