mass on the submandibular gland

My husband noticed a lump in the right side of his neck in June, he seen our family Dr, who ordered an ultra sound but also refered him to a specialist. Well we saw the specialist on Oct 18 and he said the Ultrasound showed a mass about 3.5cm on the submandibular gland and ordered a CT scan. I'm very concerned because we waited 3 months for him to see this specialist only to find out it is not his field, that he would need to refer him to another specialist. We received a call for his CT apt on the 16th of Nov....and he has not yet received a call from the second specialist. There is no pain and the lump is on the right side of his neck, the swelling has gone down some. It has been there for more than 5 months. I'm sorry for such a long story but I am very worried it is something serious....

Hello Heather, I don't know how things work in Canada but think it is worth doing a bit of screaming and shouting - you know - he who shouts loudest and all that. It may not be malignant, lets hope not but still needs to be sorted, the sooner the better.

Good luck

Hi Heather!
Start kicking and screaming Girl,
Deb my lovely wife found a lump on the right side of my neck on the 28th of April 2007 and we saw our GP on the 7th of May(I didn't think it was serious)and after a scan that same day my Doc refered my to an Specialist Surgoun the very next day who removed the lump on the 16th and found that it was malignant but not the Primary, so he refered me to an ENT Specialist and he saw me on the 1st of June and was sent to our main hostpital to have my Tonsils removed but they wher fine. On the 22nd of June I was back in surgery and had a Modified Radical Neck Dissection where they found 2 more Malignant cells in the Lymph Nodes they removed along with a lot of other stuff.
I can recomend following up with the proceedure as without it I believe I would not be as well as I am now, HOWEVER don't think it is all beer and skittles as what you go through during and after surgery is a REALLLLL bitch BUT in the long run LIFE is the end game, so hang in there Heather and kick butt
All the best Trev from down under

Thanks for your suggestions it seemed to work...I usually don't stop until I get results but I was going around in circles.....we received a call from the neck specialist and his Appt date Nov 29....still to far away for me......it is good to talk to someone other than family,,,,they seem to start crying as soon as it's mentioned....and you know what happens then,,,chain reaction...I'll keep you posted, I pray every chance I get.
