Hi
I am a new 'groupee' having only just discovered this site. I had cancer of the tongue 15 years ago. The good news is I am still here and am fit and well. The less good news is that I get very frustrated with not being able to eat & speak properly, though the upside is I stay very slim & ak a good listener! I have felt very isolated at times despite having a loving family and supportive friends. No one can really understand what it is like to live with the effects of the treatment and I am hoping by joining the group I can both encourage those not so far down the road to recovery, but also talk to people with similar experiences and maybe pick up some tips - especially on eating well. I am in a real food rut! I look forward to hearing from some of you.

Hi Hazel,
Mum has just been diagnosed again with cancer of the tongue. Seen consultant today who says it seems to be quite small and localised so they are going to lazer the tumour next week. Better news than we thought, hopefully it will not affect her speech and eating. I hope that you are keeping your chin up and if you need to chat you can contact me whenever you want. Linda x

Hi Hazel, I had my cancer in 1990 and like you
glad to be here. I can't advise on what to eat
but, I'm on the site often. So when ever you
want to talk let me know. I find that the computer is my life line. There is also another site called the Oral cancer foundation and they
are also helpful. Hope we can chat again.

HI my name is Ann and about three weeks ago was told I had tounge cancer. Life has been quite hecktick since then with trips to and from the hospital.. Am waiting to go in for my op to have the tounge removed, just got over having the feeding peg put in. It's all new and rather daunting but having found this site and read some of your own stories I hope that in the future I can call on you all for some advise or just a chat..

Hello Ann

You can always count on us for help with advice or just to listen. Be strong, and good luck with the treatment.

Best wishes

Hi Ann

Sorry to hear about your forthcoming op. Yes, it is all very daunting. It is a hard road to tread that has not been chosen, but take courage from the fact that many of us on this site have trodden it before you. Be gentle with yourself, and be prepared that it can take quite a while before you feel like 'you' again. Life won't ever be the same, but it is possible to adapt and enjoy life. I do hope all goes to plan on the 29th. Take care - we'll be thinking of you.

Hazel
