Hi my name is Shelley and I was diagnosed with mouth cancer in February 2002. I am originally from South Africa and have been living in the UK since June 2002. Hi Shelly Welcome to the new message board. You're our first poster! What sort of mouth cancer have you got? And how are you doing/coping? I like your signature """Of all the things I have lost, I miss my mind the most!!!""" I would have thought that since you're from South Africa, you would be missing the weather! Look forward to hearing more from you. Hi Shelley, I had Mouth & Neck Cancer had operation 15 months ago. Had 30 Radiotherapy treatments which was horendous and to top it all part of my tongue removed as it went black and my speech is badly affected.I am just getting away from it all at the moment just back from India and going to Tunsia on Sunday for a break. I am fed up of the whole thing. It is not the Cancer or the operation it is the after effects that is killing me . Paul

Hi Everyone I.m Eileen and come from caerphilly oh how I agree with both of you I was diagnosed with tongue cancer ( inthe minor salivary gland ) a tiny red mark that the dentist found did not even know it was there and how I wish I had left it like that the cure is worth than the cancer the lymph nodes were removed and they were clear I was reallly fit and healthy before this talk about depression Ive never suffered before with it I.m reacked with anger that I had the surgery done no radio or chemo innfact there was very little evidence of a tumour there I so understand how oyu feel as I feel I would have gone on for 5 -10 years before anything nasty appreared to affect me it was low grade still thats enough of me I hope you all feel better and can find the positive outlook that I lack

Hello Paul Looks like your holiday has done you a lot of good! How was it in Tunisia? Work gives a sense of purpose and gives us a sense of self-worth. So, you should feel better if you enjoy your work. Practise working on your speech - it does get better (not like before though). Read Mouth Tongue and Teeth - A Personal Account - it is encouraging and amusing. Hi Paul, You will eventually get used to your speech and it does improve as time goes by. Most of the ppl who don't know what I've been through just seem to assume that I had one to many  (especially over the phone) but hey I can live with that "Live like there is no tomorrow, Dance like no one is watching, Love like u've never been hurt" "U don't stop laughing because you grow old, You grow old because you stop laughing"
