Hi everyone. I'm a bit late joining the forum really. I dont go online much and this is the 10th anniversary of my diagnosis. I was diagnosed in September 1997 with Squamous Cell Carcinoma. I had my upper left jaw and left hand side of my palate removed and then radiotherapy for 6 weeks followed by a couple of operations including reconstructive surgery. Without wishing to cause any offense to any present sufferers, and as a positive message, I would like to say that having cancer turned into one of the most positive experiences of my life. Much more good than bad came out of it. If anyone wants to know more then I'll be happy to share my experiences. All the best to everyone on the site and good luck.

Dear Hagg, its allways good to hear from a long term survivor. As a wife who worries about my Husbands future every day, its very encouraging to hear you are celebrating your 10th anniversary. Congratulations. I for one would like to read your story.

Hi Hagg

Good to hear from a fellow Devonian!

I too had a Squamous Cell Carcinoma, in my case to my right tonsil. Only removed last August, so I can't claim 10 months, let alone 10 years as yet!

I would also be interested in your story.

Dave

Hi Hagg
thank you very very much for your kind sponsor on my just giving website, it is very touching and very much appreciated to recieve a sponsor from somone I have never met!
I have read your story and you are doing great and glad that you were able to pick up so many positives from being ill and have probably found how enjoyable exercise can be.
I wish you continued good health and happiness.
Take care

Thanks, now read your story - great stuff!

Interested that you are now taking daily regular exercise. I'm hoping to meet Dee before the start of this year's marathon - perhaps the 3 of us can meet up at next year's?

I think exercise was the key for me,mentally and physically. I was using an exercise bike and rowing machine but they were irritating a back and achilles problem (too much falling off motorcycles lol) so I do more weights and cycle just a few times a week. I do it 5 times a week and watch what I eat aswell. lots of fish and chicken and not too much red meat.
