Hello, I wrote just over a month ago, having found out I had cancer of the tongue. Thank you to everyone who took the time to reply, it really helped. I just thought I'd let you know that I am now home after surgery to remove the affected side of the tongue. I have had a bilateral neck dissection and removal of lymph nodes. My arm muscle was used to reconstruct my tongue and skin taken from my thigh to cover area of arm. Also to add to my treats, I have a tube into my stomach so that I can take food and liquids when I have my radiotherapy! I have to say that I feel much better than I expected and although there is of course some way to go, I am no longer in such a dark place as I found myself on November 7th. I can talk and eat a little and the wounds are healing well. I thought this might give someone a positive angle on things, but also hope that my rather dramatic treatment doesn't make anyone worry - they don't do this to everyone!

Hi gms,
I'm glad you're feeling so much better, and I hope that you continue to recover really well. I didn't have anything like the surgery that you had, I just had a simple tonsilectomy, but I had radiotherapy and chemotherapy afterwards. Keep in contact with us, as the radiotherapy can be really draining, and many people on this site will be able to offer you advice on any problems that you have with the treatment. |
