i have had a growth on the inside of my lip inside my mouth now for nearly 3 months. It started out as a red lump nowt to worry about but over time has grown to nearly 1 inch in circumference and changed color so it looks clear like a blister but is solid.I am too scared to do anything about it well to be honest am absolutely s***t scared and haven`t got the guts to do owt about it even though my family tell me to summatt about it. I wasn`t unduly worried till i went to chemist for a mouthwash or something and he said go to dr`s straight away then ...never mind ...i`m just a coward a very scared one...i am 36 6ft tall built like a brick shit house and scared shitless...need i say more

Good Morning Brooky' 36 6ft & well built eh? I'm 68 5'4 & built like the wrong half of a fitness advert so that's one thing we seem to have in common. We are all cowards at heart so that's another thing in common. Now then this problem of yours, since you came to this web site you obviously think the lump in your mouth is a cancer( firstly don't be frightened of the word). The chances are it is not!But whether it is or it isn't,it needs seeing to without any further delay.I know from personal experience that West Yorkshire has the finest team of brilliant experts to deal with mouth problems, but you have to take the first step & that is to see your Doctor at 08.30 tomorrow morning,The sooner you get it seen to the easier it will be to deal with, every day counts-----really. I live in Hopton near Mirfield so if you want to meet up please say so.If want a chat on the phone my number is 01924 494 084.Don't let yourself down ,Brooky, 08.30 in the morning at the Docs OK? good luck mate ,let me know how you get on John

Brooky, John Spencer is 100% right about the cancer teams in West Yorkshire. I had my tongue removed back in 2001 and just like you when first diagnosed I was terrified then stunned. I was lucky in that my GP missed the cancer, after all head and neck cancer isn't the commonest, but I had to see my dentist for the 6 monthly routine check-up and he recognised what was in my mouth and fixed an appointment for me that same day. The team who looked after me at Bradford Royal Infirmary were very straight with me pointing out all the downsides (well, almost all) resulting from the surgery. The radiotherapy Ihad wasn't anywhere as bad as expected. OK I can't take any solid food and get all my nutrition thru' my PEG. Annoying as that may be it's better than the alternative. It's maybe worth remembering though that I think we all react differently not only to the diagnosis but also to the treament. BUT as John says it really is most important that you get things seen to without delay. Hope you'll keep us posted on how you go
