Hello Michael

I went to your web site and found that it carries the: """SURGEON GENERAL'S WARNING: This site may cause mouth cancer and / or complicate pregnancy.""" :bomb:

It is a commercial website advertising smokeless tobacco! Eeker I don't think it is a website our members would find helpful. :banghead:

However, I would be interested to ask you if you would care to post a link to the MouthCancerAwareness Homepage.
Some of your visitors might wish to find out more about mouth cancers. It might help some of them stop. It wouldn't really hurt your business, and you would be trying to help those who wished to stop or seek more information. Cool

I am willing to allow your postings to stand if you help me get my message to your clients, What do you say? Smiler

Best wishes

Vinod

I have just joined this forum. My name is Jan and I was diagnosed with ameloblastic carcinoma in March 2000. I had a partial maxillectomy in June 2000 and have gone on to have in total, 14 operations on my mouth. Although I am clear of cancer now, I have problems with scar tissue which is making it hard for me to open my mouth. I also have an oro-antral fistula (think that is right) which has proven almost impossible to close completely. I recently had a free flap graft as a last resort but this failed after 3 weeks. My consultant is running out of ideas!

Dear Jan

Glad to know that you're clear of cancer now. Has your consultant considered closing off the oro-antral fistula with an obturator plate. A well made plate should be just as effective as a surgical repair with a free flap graft.

The difficulty with opening the mouth appears related to scarring from the surgery (and radiotherapy?). Try exercises to stretch open your mouth using increasing numbers of wooden tongue depressor spatulas (like ice-cream sticks) wedged between your teeth. Do this for several minutes, several times a day. How often is up to you, depending on how tired your jaw gets. Try to increase the number of spatulas between your teeth every few days. This should increase your opening somewhat. Sometimes it is possible for your surgeon to release any tight fibrous scar bands to allow wider opening.

Visit the Therabite web site for more information about limited mouth opening and its treatment.

Best wishes
