Hi, all! I'm new to this forum. My father was diagnosed with stage-3 mouth cancer two years ago. He is terrified of doctors and hospitals, and chose radiation and chemo over surgery. Although successful, he has no teeth and has extreme difficulty speaking and swallowing. He has lost a considerable amount of weight. I'd like to give him as much """non-scary""" PEG info as I can. Anyone have any insight? It would be much appreciated.

God bless you all,
Sarah

Hello Sarah, Welcome to RDOC. I have a feeding tube and have had it since feb, 2004. I have had no probelms with mine other than the fact that the put one to small in the first time. No biggie I went and had a bigger one put in. I cannot eat anything by my mouth. I think it would do your father wonders to have one put in. After all we need the food to help our system fight this awful disease. I hope I have helped you some. Without this I had lost over half of my body weight....Ask his doctor about it, I am shocked that they haven't already talked with him about one..Let us know. keep us up on how things are going. Always Vicki Lynn

3rd time ORAL CANCER, 80% tongue removed, total neck dissection feb,04 radiation twice.

Sarah,

Hi, my friend who has throat cancer had the peg put in his stomach. He is also very afraid and the peg was a piece of cake for him. He was so afraid going in and then after he realized it was no big deal. He was a little sore the first day but after that he was okay. He is very sqeamish too so feeding himself at first was hard. Roll Eyes He is okay with it now and is finished with treatment. He is having a very hard time swallowing and is looking for ways to gain weight. He really wants to eat. Razzerizza: Anyway tell your Dad not to worry, if my friend can do it ANYONE can, trust me! Good Luck! maur
