Hi Belle,

Your arrival is of particular interest to me as you, it appears, have had a similar ailment and treatment timing as myself. Namely, cancer at the base of the tongue and treatment completion, in my case, on 22 September, 2004 just two weeks earlier than yourself.

Therefore I think it might be of interest to compare our respective progress. If you are interested I will comment on my overall recovery to date.

Again, welcome to the site. Regards, Fridge

Do you know a heart that hungers
For a word of love and cheer?

There are many such about us;
It may be that one is near.

Look around you, if you find it
Speak the word that's needed so,

And your own heart may be strengthened
By the help that you bestow.

Never think kind words are wasted,
Bread on waters cast are they.

And it may be we shall find them
Coming back to us, some day.

Coming back when sorely needed,
In a time of sore distress,

So, my friend, let's give them freely;
Gift and giver God will bless.

Thanks to everyone who acknowledged my message! It is so comforting to have found you!
Yes, Fran, it is "a hard slog". (I love that expression!)
And it is very fortunate to have found 2 people whose time frame paralleled mine--Fridge and Fran's husband. We can compare notes.
As I mentioned before my treatments ended on Oct.1 2004. I had 7 weeks of radiation (35 in all)and chemo once a week for 7 weeks at the same time. The recovery has been hard but I now am feeling very well physically but not so good emotionally because of the lack of taste buds.My radiation Dr. said I could possibly regain them anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months or maybe a year. I had I.M.R.T (Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy) which was supposed to be less invasive than the regular kind. Did any of you have that kind?
I really would like to hear your experiences and especially about taste buds. If there is anything any of you would like to ask me I will be more than happy to share further with you.
Thanks for being there!

Belle
