Tongue cancer symptoms

Hi everyone.

My husband may be diagnosed with tongue cancer. He had a biopsy done last Thursday and we should have results by this coming Friday.

Initially, his dentist and doctor thought that his problem may be a very severe infection of the tongue since he has had denntal work done since February;however, after having tried several anti-biotics, he's condition only worsens.

He has never smoked and is a very healthy person. We are jsut wondering what the typical sympotms are and if lab work comes back positive for cancer. What should we expect??

This is very hard for us as we are 35 yrs old with 2 beautiful girls ages 9 and 4.

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Leze,My husband had a sore very small area towards the back of his tongue, which turned out after biopsy to be cancerous. He had no other symptoms, has always kept himself very fit and never smoked.with regards to what to expect everyone is different, difficult to say.Ray had the tumour removed by laser and the left side of his neck checked,it had spread to lymph nodes so he is now having radiotherapy,we both feel if the GP he had been seeing for 2 years had referred him earlier for biopsy it may not have spread. But that obviously is only what we think.Hope your husband has a negative result and that it is just an infection.

Thanks Carol

We are hoping that we get good news and that its something else but both doctors have pretty much said that it might be cancer.

How exactly do they do radiotherapy?

I have a thousand questions right now, I'm so confused.

Hi Leze

You will find a lot of information about radiotherapy in the Treatment section of the MCF website. If you have any questions, please ask - someone will reply.

Hope the lesion turns out noncancerous and you both don't have to travel this difficult path.

Best wishes

Thank you Dr. Joshi

This has been the longest week ever. We are patiently waiting for the results but time is going by in slow motion

I have found information on the treatments.
