Hi, I'm a 16 year old girl living in South Wales UK. I have asthma, though lately my chest pains have worsened, I've been wheezing and I get out breath easily. Also, I've noticed that I've lost my appetite, not enough to get worried but I'm a big eater. I get tired for no reason and a few days ago I noticed that I have yellow nails. I went to my doctor and he thinks it may be yellow nail syndrome, but he couldn't tell me much about it because he hasn't seen a case of it before. So now he's asked me to clip of some of my nails to be sent to the laboratory to be tested.

Being the inquisitive person that I am, I looked up yellow nail syndrome on the internet when I got home. And I found out that its frequently associated with lung cancer. I don't want to sound like a hypercondriact or anything, but I live with 3 big smokers and looking at survival rates for girls my age, it's not good.

I know you're not doctors and you can't diagnose me, but does it sound like I have lung cancer to you?

Oh damn. And I just realised, this is not the place where I'm supposed to be at all, I'm so sorry, I really should read before I do anything >_<

Hi Sequeena, You are welcome on this site anytime. Most of us have had mouth cancer and survived. So we know what it is like to be apprehensive. You are correct to suspect you are being exposed to second hand smoke and it is not healthy. Wait for the report to come back on your nails and then do exactly what your doctor tells you. And tell him about your second hand smoke exposure. Good luck, Cathy
