i dont think i can do this for much longer.
i have written letters to my children to say how much i love them and why this has happened. just in case i do go or i do something silly.
i went to the docs on tuesday to show her the swelling under the left side in the floor of the mouth and tell her about the one sided sore throat and upper back pain(im staring to feel like a parrott)and she put me on antibiotics yet again!!!! saying that i had a infection. she then went on to do blood tests a full blood count and infection/viral test because this has been going on now for over a year. im now in so much pain even left side of neck and ear are huting now im convinced there is something very sinister going on. to my surprise they phoned me today and said that they are completly clear i told the doctors of my fears of cancer and she said not to be silly it would have shown up. im going to the doctors for one last try if i dont get anywhere tomorrow and then i really dont no what to do. im sorry for sounding off.

Hi worried mum

You are getting worked up because you are worried about the discomfort you feel and you think no one is taking you seriously. I do. But the discomfort is not necessarily due to a cancer, so relax.

Ask your doctor to refer you to the ENT specialists so that they can look up and down your throat. If they too can't find anything, it is either muscle pain or a neurological problem. Often times the neurologist (after doing the MRI brain scan) will say that it is not neurological either and my neurologist refers the patient to me for management of the muscle pain. So take it a step at a time and the cause of the discomfort will be whittled down to something - even if you still have the discomfort at least you will know it is not a mouth/throat cancer. Meanwhile, go and re-read all the advice you have been given, and relax!

Best wishes
Vinod Coffee

thank you so much for replying to message.
i ended up going to a emergancy dentist today because the pain in the floor of the mouth and pain and soreness got so bad in throat (all on the left side) and the doctor said that i had and infection in my lower left side wisdom tooth which now needs to be taken out by the oral surgeon. when i told him of my symtoms he said that they were all due to the lower wisdom tooth partially through. i have two questions
1. my gp took blood test for glandular fever and infection last tuesday, would this have shown if infection was in tooth?
2. why is it that im having more pain and soreness in floor of mouth and throat pain with occasional jaw pain rather than the actual wisdom tooth.
can i just say that dr joshi has a very kind nature and kindness that gives us all that little bit of faith. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!

hi worried mum, and everyone,

I have had much the same symptoms as you, but not going on for so long! I have had a bad throat for about 9 weeks now, down the left hand side, swollen tender gland on left side and it raidiates up to my ear, often giving me ear ache. I Too have been very worried about this, and feel that doctors tend to dissmiss your fears easily. I have seen 3 doctors on 4 different occasions, so far had antibiotics, throat pastels for trush (even though they couldn't see anything) and salt gargles. I went again today and saw a lovely doctor who reassured me a bit, and ordered a blood test, will this show up anything sinister (ie. cancer). I am a 29 year old mother of 3, a smoker (unfortunetly) and to be honest am worried about throat cancer! Sometimes I feel though that the worring almost makes my symptoms appear worse than they are and to be honest i dont feel unwell at all, just the pain in left throat and gland area and ear pain, i dont feel run down. I did have a white patch on my tongue removed 4 months ago and was told that that was not cancer thank god, but feel that a sore throat that goes on for longer than a few weeks says something is wrong.

I now have to wait a dreaded two weeks before they can fit me in to do a blood test let alone wait for the results!!!
