Hello LovesLife Most mouth cancers are squamous cell carcinomas originating from the epithelial cells ('skin layer') of the oral mucosa lining the mouth and throat. Often the cancer can invade the jawbone. Cancer of the jawbone itself is called osteosarcoma (bone tumour). Treatment is often similar. The main thing is to get a proper diagnosis and the CT scan will give more information. Your oncologist and surgeon will discuss the results and decide on the best management and answer your questions. You will also find much support here and answers to your questions that only others who have experienced something similar can. Let us know how you get on. Thank you Vinod.I have Leukemia,CLL and have several different chemos but the last four years I have had extreme pain in my lower right jaw.I had two root canals and a tooth extraction none of which were needed but was hoping for relief.I also have a bitter taste in my mouth and sour spit.I was first told it was the Trigeminal(MS)Nerve.I am using Lidocaine Lollipops and a compounded pain cream both of which help a small bit.I finally went to an infectious disease Dr. and he sent me for a panorex and the dentist there said he saw something in the bone and it isn't a nerve problem. So he sent me for the CT Scan last Thursday.I called today to see if I could get the results..he said the results are in but first he needs to talk to the radiologist about it and will call me back tomorrow.Any thoughts?? Thanks again, Deb

Many times the ache felt is a muscle pain referred into the teeth or bone. This is often related to clenching activity which is increased during stress. If your teeth shows signs of wear, this could be a likely cause of your ache. They don't show signs of wear.My dentist made me a night guard to wear just in case but it only made me hurt worse. I have a question. What would a CT scan of the lower jaw and teeth be called? Would that be different than a CT of Maxillofacial?

Most of my pain comes from the gums or bones under 29,30 and 31 on the right side. What would you order a CT of to get those.Maxillofacial or lower jaw? Thanks!

I did find out today that my Dentist ordered the CT Scan of my lower right jaw and they did the Maxillofacial instead.Urggggggggg!!

Hey LovesLife- what can you tell me about jaw cancer. Just left dentist- they did a pnao x-ray and a spot showed on my lower left jaw bone. What signs did you have? Do you chew and smoke? Really worried right now- hoping its not more than just a spot on the x-ray. Mark
