swelling on palateGo ![]() | New ![]() | Find ![]() | Notify ![]() | Tools ![]() | Reply ![]()
Hello... This is my first post. I am concerned about some changes in my mouth and I wonder could you give me your opinion please? I am a 30 yr old male living in Ireland...I am an ex smoker (1 yr. off them / smoking for 13 yrs. 10-20 cigs per day) and I also drank very regularly (4 times a week) until recently. Now i'm not though. Anyway...I have a swelling/raised area in my hard palate (to the right of the centre bone) and it seems to get bigger and smaller. It sometimes feels like there is pressure building up and i can feel it all the way to my eye. It's been there for 1 month now. As well as that i have small pebble like bumps on the left side of my mouth but on the junction of soft and hard palate... I am obviously terrified and i would very much appreciate your comments on what could be the cause... Many thanks in advance... PaddyThis message has been edited. Hi Paddy Congratulations on quitting smoking. Online diagnosis is difficult and impractical. The best thing for you to do is make an appointment with your gp, especially since the problem has been there for a month and doesn't seem to be going away; anything that doesn't heal on its own in a couple of weeks is a cause for concern. If your gp isn't able or willing to help you, your dentist would be the next stop. Take a list of all of your symptoms with you, try not to go alone, and don't take "I don't know" for an answer. I'm sorry I couldn't give you a better answer, but that's the best advice I can give you. Please let us know how it turns out. Julia Howdilly doodilly, survivorinos!

Hi Julia, Many thanks for your quick reply to my post. I have made an appointment with an ENT surgeon and will let you know how i get on. Kind regards, Paddy

Hello Paddy You should also get your teeth checked out as an infection from an upper non-vital (dead nerve) tooth can give rise to a swelling in the palate. Thank you Doctor... Luckily i have good teeth and have 0 fillings. I've always brushed 3 times a day. I was at the dentist recently for cleaning and he noted nothing unusual. What else could cause the swelling?
