Hello everyone, Last year I noticed a lump in my neck. I ignored it until my wife noticed and immediately sent me to a local Doctor. The Doctor had me scanned and sent me to a specialist who then diagnosed me with Squemous Cell Carcinoma. I was sent to Mayo Clinic and underwent 9 hours of surgery and 6 weeks of Chemo/Radiation. They told me they thru everything and the kitchen sink at me to save my life. I lost 85 pounds which I actually needed to lose just not that way. I was bedridden for months and suffered withdrawls when they took me off the pain medication. I am now back to work and back to eating. I have had two follow up appointments with tests and have been declared cancer free. I do not know what the future will bring but I have a new appreciation for life. Live it to the fullest! I just wanted to introduce myself to this board. Thanks

Hi,

Hi my name is Lina and I am 21...I NEED SOME SERIOUS PROFESSIONAL ADVICE!..this is something to do with the person whos always been my mentor, my teacher, my best friend and much more ever since i remember, she means to me much more than my biological mother...but shes now suffering 4m mouth cancer...it was diagonised exactly a year back and she was advised by the dentist to get a surgery done ..she was 86 then and too hesitatnt to go for alopathy,i tried my best to make her understand at that point that having it operated at such an early stage wud b the best option but all in vain, and since my entire family had put their blind faith in the "so calld" homeopathic doctor and his treatment i didnt knw whether going aginst them and persuading her 4 the surgery wud be the right thing to do,whether it wud really save her life or jst make things worse...which is why she was kept on homeopathy, thats where things went terribly wrong... nw she complains of tooth ache once in a while, and often bleeds i hav no clue which stage the cancer is in NOW, but all i can see is that shes in a really bad state so much that it has spread all across her mouth.. ...i am desperate to save her life..its nt jst abt her life anymore its abt my life too..i hav given up my job jst to be by her side 24/7 i hav lost my apetite seeing she cant eat anymore i hav lost my sleep seeing her bleed every nite, if nt every nite jst the fear that she may, shakes me up. I need to save her 4 my own self please show me the way, will she be alrite?is it possible that the cancer can be cured if v have it operated at this stage??..please help.

Hi Lina

I'm sorry about your friend. Unfortunately, there are some people in the world who hear words like "cancer" and decide almost right away to give up. I believe that there is some validity to homeopathic medicine, but that it can be complementary to Western (a.k.a. "modern") medicine. Unfortunately, only a doctor can determine what kind of treatment (if any at this point) would be effective for her.

It could also be that she knew people in the past who'd had oral cancer, back when prognoses were pretty bleak and the surgery was barbaric and destructive.

I hope for the best for you and your friend.

Hi Dave

Congrats! I, too, lost quite a bit of weight while I was treated for tongue cancer. I looked pretty good; unfortunately the reintroduction of solid food afterward brought it back with bells on.

Merry Christmas!

Dave, welcome to the site. I had SCC, went down to 6 stone and had the ops and withdrawal symptoms and I'm ok now. I agree with you, live life to the fullest if you're given the opportunity. It was definately life changing and on reflection, one of the best thing that ever happened to me.

Lina, sorry to hear about your friend. Maybe at she thought it was all too much to go through and couldn't deal with it as Julia said. By the sound of it she is lucky to have such a dedicated friend as you.

Hi Dave

Glad you have found this site - it always helps to talk with people who understand what you have been through. Great to hear how well you are doing and your positive attitude.

I had an operation for tongue cancer last year; I lost 33 pounds, but the weight is starting to creep up again now - must do something about that after Christmas!

Do keep in touch and let us know how you are doing.

Regards

Gwyn

Hi Lina

So sorry to hear about your friend. Like Julia says it is only a doctor who can tell what the outcome might be for her cancer, but you are in such a difficult position. She has to make her own decision but perhaps you can talk to her about her options. At the very least a doctor might be able to stop the bleeding and make her more comfortable. This sounds so dreadful for both of you.

Best wishes

Gwyn
