I have just discovered this site which I find very informative. My mum has cancer of the tongue which is now in her lymph nodes. She had chemotherapy and radiotherapy last year but has just had her tongue biospied which has come back clear but her lymph nodes are up again and she has been told by her Oncologist that it looks inoperable but she has to wait to see her Surgeon next week.

How was your mum's tongue cancer discovered? Have they biopsied the enlarged lymph nodes - sometimes it is just an inflammatory reaction.

The cancer took about 6 months to finally diagnose after she had a very enlarged lymph node on her neck which was biopsied. She then had an EUA - examination under anaesthetia - which found the primary on her tongue. She had absolutely no symptoms from this at all.

They haven't biopsied the swollen gland this time round. She sees her Surgeon again next week.

She and you will be in our thoughts Sarah. My mother always says think good thoughts and it is advice worth trying to follow at times like this. You can't do anything between now and seeing the doc next week. So just be and live today doing something nice together. Pamper yourselves some way, anyway. This is the news we all dread so we have some idea of the anguish and distress you must both be going through.

Well, the cancer had come back in the lymph nodes. Mum started her chemotherapy again 3 weeks ago and it has absolutely floored her. She is in hospital at the moment. She hasn't ate in 21/2 weeks as she had very bad thrush from her lips down her oesophagus. On top of that she had an underlying throat infection. She is now on a morphine pump and a drip. The lump has all but gone in her neck though and she sees the surgeon and oncologist tomorrow to go through the next stage. Her oncologist is very pleased with her and hopes that she won't need any more chemotherapy. I don't think she could take it anyway. She's quite positive although she's finding it hard talk.

Sarah I am so sorry to hear this news. Be there as much as you can be, having your family is so important. I know this, my daughter is 24, she just cannot take coming around me. So she is running right now. Bless her heart, I wish she could she that she is only taking precious time away from us...Bless you and yours, you are in my prayers, Always Vicki P.S. Hug mum for me...
