Hi All,

Thought i would let u know, I have just come back out of hospital today, went into clinic on Thursday and was kept in. I had a really bad infection inside my cheek so the consultant had to open up the flap and put a drain in, he used a finger from a surgical glove, how amazing is that.

Then on sat my consultant wasn't happy that i still looked very swollen sent me for a scan that revealed a lot of fluid, so went back down to theatre on saturday evening to have another drain put in on the outside of my neck.

I woke up then on sunday morning looked in the mirror and i looked like me before the original surgery. What a difference. Been on antibiotics since last week and b on them till next week but i don't care.

I look good if i should say so myself.

Goin back on thursday to get my dressing changed on my arm then back next thursday to see my consultant.

Thats all for now will keep you all updated as and when.

Love Rachel x

Hi Again,

Didn't think I would be doing this again so soon. But got another bad infection and gotta go back into hospital on Tuesday to have a drain put in again. On the bright side I have been asked if i will give interviews about mouth cancer as i am so young to have it. Of course I said yes - to highlight the fact that u can get mouth cancer at any age.

I have already done one interview had photo's taken today at the hospital. Maybe something good will come out of all this.

Will let u all know how i get on - Positive Mind, Positive Attitude.

Take Care and God Bless

Rachel

You are having some bad luck, aren't you, but at least they are sorting things out for you - hope it all goes well on Tuesday. Great about the interviews and well done for doing this - anything that can raise awareness is so worthwhile.

Hi All,

Am now definately on the road to recovery. Had the drain removed last Thursday, they mad a tiny cut to the outside of my cheek which even still 2 weeks on is still oozing stuff out. Not very nice but at least it's coming out. The swelling is going down really good now.

Don't forget it's National Mouth Cancer awareness week next week starting Monday 17th Novembere 2008. I have arrange to make and sell cakes at my childrens school, my little boys playgroup, my old school teacher is also selling them for me and my husband is taking them to work to sell. I have already been given £100 donation from the owner of my son's playgroup which is really appreciated. Got a lot more fundraising arranged in December.

Hopefully it will be fun.

Take care and God Bless

Love Rachel xxxx

Hello Rachel

Things will feel better as the swelling goes down but it will take some time to adapt to speech and swallowing etc. It takes time to recover your strength so don't overdo things too soon ... there will another mouth cancer awareness week next year. If you need any help with materials, you can get them through the AWARENESS & FUNDRAISING section of the MCF website.

Best wishes

Hi All,

I have been very busy the past couple of days, I have been making Mouth Cancer known to lots of people. I have been interviewed by my local paper (Coventry Telegraph), have had the television people interview me (Midlands Today) that should be shown next week seeing it's Mouth Cancer Awareness Week. Have done an interview with the local radio (Mercia FM), doing a live show on Monday 17th November (BBC Coventry & Warwickshire) I am really scared doing this as it is live. And finally I am in the process of doing an article in a ladies magazine (don't know which one yet).

Its really good because the more that people talk about mouth cancer the more people will become more aware themselves and also the money raised from what I am doing is going astraight to the Head & Neck Unit at my local hospital (UHCW) to thank them for what they have done for me, and I will continue to raise funds for this good cause.

Many Thanks to you all for your support.

God Bless

Rachel xx

Hi All

Thought I would come back on the site to let you know how I am getting on. Well I have been in and out of hospital time and time again having the flap thinned out inside my mouth, and am now waiting for another operation to have the two back teeth taken out and the flap thinned again. Then one more after the swelling has gone down to smooth the flap. So I am getting really addicted to the sleepy stuff lol

My story was recently told in the Sunday Mirror magazine and had a phone call from the Dental Health Org saying that they had a good response from people after my story went out. What a result.

So far I have now raised £1300 for the head and neck unit at my local hospital, which I am really grateful for.

Will pop back on the site again, hopefully to say that I have had all my operations done.

God Bless

Love Rachel xxx

Hi Rachel
Good to hear from you, sorry it's been so long since I've been in touch, I'm not a great one for keeping up with my mails.
You've done a great job with your fundraising.
