I wrote this a couple of days ago and I must say I am shocked that NO ONE has bothered to even comment on this. It is as if it was never even written. So I will ask again. You know I just went thru the member's list. I am shocked at all the members we have--WHERE ARE THEY??? I am just thinking about all the prayers that are said for all of those that were once on here and yet we have no idea how they are doing. Where they are at. I want to say something to everyone that is on here. If you do decide not to keep talking to us and exchanging thoughts and ideas, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let us know that you are not coming back on the site. It is just so rude to just stop talking to us. Some of us,,ME,,really do care about you and your families. Some of us,,ME,,really do pray for you everynight and wish you the very best. So I am asking those that are on here today,,,,to please stay in touch with us and let us know how you are doing, what you are thinking. This is how we grow for one thing. This is how we become strong to help each other to FIGHT this disease. This is how we learn. Learn about how to cope, how to deal, what to do, what to ask, where to go and all the things that we can teach each other about this disease. How are we EVER going to make a difference if we don't stick together......WE WON"T. I would just hate to think that this disease that has ruined my life, has won. I would hate to think that I have gone thru all of this and NO ONE person was helped because of it. PLEASE do not stay silent......WE NEED TO BE HEARD!!!!! I just wanted to share my thoughts about this....If I have offened anyone I won't appologize for this. We are a GROUP. We are the VOICE of this disease. HOW ELSE WILL ANYONE KNOW!!!! Vicki Lynn

Hello Vicki

Sorry, I haven't been too well, so not posting recently. Been recovering from a bout of pneumonia (not nice!).

Your question reminds me of Joan Baez singing "where have all the flowers gone". Lovely song. Our membership is made up of those who have chosen to register on the message board. Some to show support, some to get/give advice, some to seek/give support. Some lurk, some are active posters. Some go away not to return having had their query answered, some get busy and then return later. The message board is here for every flower that needs a bit of sunshine.

Best wishes

Hello Paul I know the question wasn't directed to me (I can't help being nosey!) but my understanding is that when someone undergoes major surgery in the mouth area for cancer, a neck disection is done as a precaution to avoid the cells going into the lymphatic system. It seems to be the norm - so not only do we have a fraction of original tongue we also have a scar from ear to ear - very fetching!! No doubt someone will correct me if I've given you duff information. Regards Brenda x

Hi Vicki You did pose the question under another heading. Pikeman and Maurice came right back to you on that same day 20th? I agree, there are lots of names who have just floated away and we have no way of knowing how they are doing. We can only assume (or hope) that if they are feeling well they have no need to keep popping back here - much as we would love to keep track of their progress ...no news is good news??? Hope you are doing okay - keep praying for all of us (as we do for you) and keep posting. Wink Love Brenda x

concerned

hi everyone i am new to this group. I had a lump come up on the right side under my jaw I went to my PCP and he referred me to a ENT. The ENT diagnosed it as saliva stones. He went by the history of what I told him. This was about 1 month ago. The ENT also told me that they were waiting on equipment to come in before he could do anything he said it was a new procedure where they go thru the bottom of the mouth with a scope and get the stones. The other alternative was to make an incision in my neck and remove the gland. 1 month has gone by and I am getting anxious about this procedure because I am hoping that is all it is but am very anxious at the same time. I made a second appt with the ENT and was told they could not get me in right away by I could see the PA. I agreed. At this appt the PA explained to me about the lump and the stones but I am concerned because no xrays were done or anything they are going by symptons alone. I was told it would be around 3 more weeks before they could do the procedure. Does anyone know about this procedure and is it advisable for me to wait or should I try to find another doctor. The stone seems to be pushing up into the bottom of my mouth. There is no real pain and it is not unbearable just uncomfortable. Has anyone had salivary duct stones in the submandingular area or this surgery?

Hello michelleh and welcome to the site. I have had two operations to remove stones from saliva glands, over a 12 month period, which is a simple operation. I was told that the next step was to remove the saliva gland itself by going in through the neck - again not a big operation. However, the biopsy on the second op proved cancerous and you can read the rest on my story board. THAT SAID mine is a less common type of cancer (Acinic cell). However, I don't want to put the fear of God into you as perhaps your condition could easily be sorted out - but don't let things delay too long (a few weeks shouldn't make much difference). It's easy to panic when you read some of the experiences on this site but just be aware of any changes you might feel in your mouth and don't be put off if you feel you need a second opinion. I hope all goes well for you - please let us know. Brenda.
