Hi everybody. I really need some help in figuring out what to do. I'm really getting scared. My dentist wants to do a brush biopsy on my mouth next week. I've had this ulcer/lesion in my mouth for about 25 years. It's not painful. I feel like I should leave well enough alone. It doesnt cause me any problems. What should I do?

Hi Amy Louise

I responded to your other posting, but my advice remains the same. Please get the biopsy done (a brush biopsy sounds less painful than the biopsy I had).

I know you're scared, but mouth cancer is nothing to fiddle with.

Let us know how things turn out.

Hi Amy Louise, I agree with Julia. If your dentist thinks he needs to do it then you should have it done. Hagg.

12 years and still kicking it.

Hi! Amy,
I also agree with the others don't leave things to doubt for a little bit of pain you have a lot to gain by having your answers satiafied.
And keep us informed with the results.

Everybody thank you so much for responding to me. I really appreciate the time you took to answer me. My appointment is for tomorrow & I still think I shouldnt do it. If I do have cancer I don't want to know. After reading all the people's different stories on this site, I feel like why go thru all that pain and then probably die anyway. I'm already 60 yrs old & I've had this thing for 20 yrs already. Why not just leave well enough alone. I don't think I could go thru all the pain of treatment.

Hi Amy Louise

Before you decide once and for all not to have the biopsy done, talk to your dentist and see what he/she (hate that construction, but these are the days of PC overload) would recommend. Also, ask about the procedure. My biopsy was done with something that looked like tiny salad tongs with SHARP teeth. A brush biopsy doesn't sound that bad--besides, they'll probably numb the area beforehand. Wouldn't you rather find out that it's nothing than to spend a lot of time worrying about whether or not it's cancer. Stress is a killer, too.

But, ultimately, the decision is yours and I hope for the best for you, whatever you choose.

Julia

I agree also. Get the biopsy done. I had my ulcer for a year and a half before anybody could tell me to go see a head and neck dr. I had a biopsy and let me tell you my tongue hurt anyway and my biopsy hurt more than the surgery. I had a small section up the left side of my tongue removed.

Hi Amy Louise

Please forgive me if I sound like I'm being nosy or a nag, but how did everything turn out? Please let us know.

Julia
