Hi everyone

My dad discovered he has mouth cancer about a month ago, after having a biopsy. I was therefore searching on the internet for any further information when I found this website, which I think is fantastic and full of information. I'm not really sure where to start with my postings, but thought I would register for when I'm ready to hopefully add something useful.

My dad is going for his MRI scan tomorrow, so fingers crossed that there is nothing else nasty around.

My dad has never been ill before. He's a strong peson and I'm so scared. But fingers crossed once the operation is over, he should be okay.

Best wishes to everyone on this site, my thoughts are with you x

Hello Jenny

Welcome. Let's hope your dad's mouth cancer is treated successfully. We are always here if you need support :help: or information.

By the way, gang any tips on how to best approach the 'MRI experience'. I (in for a slipped disc scan) was told they would play me music through the headphones but I heard nothing! Anyway, I decided to keep my eyes shut  (to avoid the claustrophobia :yikes: ) and mediate on a mantra. It worked for me, especially when they asked to do it again! Roll Eyes

Best wishes

Jenny if you are reading this tonight do warn your father that the MRi is exceptionally loud. Louder than anything uou can imagine.

Tell him not to open his eyes once slid into the machine. Keep them tightle shut or you develop claustraphobia from becoing aware of the tube.
Tell him to take his own cd of music to have a timeframe.

It is also better to wear loose soft clothes - maybe a track suit without metal - a gown can get very chilly for 45 minutes.

Best of luck
Pauline

Hello Jenny and welcome to RDOC. Tell your DAD just to take a nap while he is in there. To just think about something that makes him happy and it will be over before he knows it...Best of luck to you all. Always Vicki

Hi there

Thanks everyone for your kind replies, its nice to know there are so many kind and understanding people out there.

Dad had his scan last Thursday. He says he felt really claustaphobic and was really pale when he came out, but is glad that part is over with. i wish I had read your advice before he got there, I'm sure it would have made him better.

Although the results are not due until this Thursday, his doctor called today to say to come in tomorrow to discuss things, and they hope to be ready to operate by Monday or Tuesday next week.

Thanks once again everyone for your kind thoughts, I'll keep in touch.

My thoughts are with you.
