I was diagnosed tongue cancer(Squmous Cell Carcinoma) in May 2005 and in June 05 my tongue was operated and half of my tongue was removed and reconstructed from the tissue and flesh from my left hand. It was an Eleven hour operation. Many Lymph nodes were removed. Fortunately they were clear. The recovery was very quick and at till date I don’t have any problem in eating or talking. It’s all God’s Blessings. I live in a Joint family and always remember the support and care by family members especially my beloved Father who also lost his battle against kidney cancer in Dec ’08. So don’t be scared or panic. The survival rate for Oral cancer is pretty good and I hope your husband will live long in good health. This website is full of supportive people who are ready to help you and support you by their experience.
One thing I feel that we the cancer victims always need emotional support from our near and dear one. Because we only know the scary feeling after first diagnosed, it’s a feeling that every thing will be lost. In this situation we need moral and emotional support. Its very much true that one day we all have to leave this world….sooner or later. Its not important the time span of our life , but its more important that the way we life our life.
Best wishes for you husband..

And now, we are getting ready for the second surgery next month. Our doctor told us that he has to remove the lymph nodes since the tumor is in the middle of his tongue. Then, the grafts from his forearm. The whole thing sounds very scary to me. I hope anyone who have had similar experience can help us.
God bless you all!
