Moved Reply: Hi i am new to the site. I have a problem with a small finger tip type lump sore (achey not ulcer)and swelling on the center hard pallet immediately behind my two front teeth. It is rather hard and sticks down enough to impare my speech. I have had it many times before and it usually goes away slow as it comes around. It will come on slightly/noticably for a couple of days untill it is big enough to nearly affect my speech. Then it starts to hurt as it swells bigger. By this time it affects my speech as if i had a lisp. It usually lasts a week or 2. It is not a burn, ulcer, or injury due to somthing i put in my mouth. I can not associate it with something that i ate (alergy). I havent the best oral higene but have recently had a checkup for no cavities and a decent tarder cleaning. I smoke on average 7 cigaretts a day and will drink wiskey and water every other weekend. I have been to the doctor and they have no clue. Been to many web site forums to no avail. At times it is hard as a rock and other time it is sort of soft like it is fluid filled. When it does recied it will actually recess into my pallet like i have a hole there vaccuming it up. Has anyone here heard of such a thing? It hurts and it is driving me crazy!-Markus

Moved Reply: Hi Markus I won't nag you about smoking. You said that you've seen a doctor about this thing behind your front teeth; I'm sorry you didn't get an answer. Would it be possible for you to see an ENT or an oral surgeon? I don't know how easy it would be for you to see such a specialist, but the sooner the better. How long have you had this problem? I've never heard of a condition like this, but until I developed it myself, I'd never heard of tongue cancer either. I do have one suggestion for the pain--it's at least worth a try: Chloroseptic or some other sore throat spray. (That might sound like an ad--it's not.) If that doesn't work, you might want to ask your doctor for a script for "Magic Mouthwash" a disgusting but highly effective blend of liquid lidocaine, liquid benedryl, and mylanta or maalox. Please let us know how things turn out. JuliaThis message has been edited. Last edited by: Julia, Howdilly doodilly, survivorinos!

Thank you for the imediate responses. I went to the dentist this morning and she had nothing to add except she believes that it is not cancerous. They took x-rays and she figures it is fluid filled. She did a couple of other simple tests for nerve damage at the teeth and checked for infection that may be related to the swelling. She is baffeled and did not shed any light on the subject. She did refer me to some kind of specialist but by the time i go to see some one it has gone away again. I live in a very remote village in alaska and just by chance a dentist has traveled here. I tried to explane this to doctors but never had anything to show them becouse it was always gone when they arived. She estimates that it is 7x9mm in size and irratated. Wow no joke. It is irritating alright. It looks to me like a tiny grape (dark pink in color) or an elongated salmon egg. It is perfectly in the center of my pallet aprox 1/4 inch from my two front teeth. It comes and goes from time to time so i actually think that it is a raction to something but i cant associate it with anything. Anyhow i am pretty much back to ground zero. It hurts and it seems to make my front part of my upper teeth achy. Thanks for listening.-Markus

Hey Markus I had another idea. Take a picture of the lump and forward it to your docs, asking them to show it to any ENT's or oral surgeons they might know. Did she at least give you something for the pain? Julia Howdilly doodilly, survivorinos!

No, she didnt have anything. She said oragel or baby numzit stuff would work. Of course the was nothing at the clinic either. I just got done eating lunch (creamed chiped beef on toast) and it seemed to soften it up some. I dont know if it is a reaction or not but i am writing down what i eat, how much and when. Maybe this will shed some light on it. I do feel that it must be some sort of vitamin deficientcy or alergic reaction to something. I do like you suggestion of the photo. Dont know if i can get a good enough shot of it. It feels like it is the size of an apple but thats how things feel in your mouth.-Markus

Hello Markus Just behind the midline between the upper central incisor teeth is the incisive canal foramen (opening) of the nasopalatine duct . Sometimes a cyst (nasopalatine duct cyst ) occurs in this site. Try and see an oral and maxillofacial surgeon for a proper diagnosis and management. The prognosis is good. Let us know how you get on. Best wishes Vinod Disclaimer: Please see your own dentist/doctor for a proper diagnosis as my words should not, in any circumstances, be taken as dental/medical advice. Thank you. This is the best diagnosis so far and makes the most sence. I looked up the link nasopalatine duct cyst, but it didnt have any treatment other than surgury. I have just gotton over a nasty cold with major sinus issues. I have always had sinus problems in the morning whether it being sneezing or just sniffle but is soon gone after my morning coffee. My son (9 yrs) always sneezes in the morning and i figure it must be hereditary. We arn't alergic to anything other than Penecillin that i know of. I do pick my nose often to clean out the dance hall (a habit picked up from years of wood dust collection/carpentry). I can imagine that a dirty finger could contribute to infection. I had hoped for a simple solution/treatment/remedy that i could try. Now that i have something to focus on i can search for some answers. If you have any ideas, medical or non-medical i would greatly appreciate it.-Markus

Markus! I finally found someone with a similar condition. You describe what I have almost exactly! It's been a couple of years since the most recent response, so this might be a shot in the dark, but have you had any success in remedying your situation. I'd love to hear.
