What I am hoping for is that the saying "lightning never strikes twice in the same place" is true.

Having had a neck dissection myself, partial removal of tongue with reconstruction, etc etc, you all know the story, my husband is now being referred to the same oral clinic as I go too.

I would say it was about 3 months ago when he said to me that he had a sore, which he thought was an ulcer, at the back of his tongue, and then nothing, until about 3 weeks ago when he started to refuse eating certain foods cos it hurt too much. Well I sent him to the doctors straight away. The doctor said he would not waste time with him, more or less admitting that he got it wrong with me, and put him on a course of steriods.

Neil had to go back and see the doctor today and yes, he has referred him to the same clinic that I went too, saying that he just wants to get it checked out. His appointment for the consultant is 18 August.

Surely it can't happen twice in one family. Poor Neil has seen enough of hospitals already in his lifetime, having suffered a serious accident at work 5 years ago, which crushed his pelvis. He is only 47 and has had both hips replaced and still has un-united fractures.

Well I am keeping everything crossed for him and will keep you updated.

Best Wishes to All
Sue x

Hi Sue
I remember you mentioning Neil's tongue ages ago. Just want you to know I'll be sending you all my positive vibes ~ not much comfort I guess but ......
Unfortunately I have to say that in fact lighting can and sometimes does strike twice. You won't know til you know but of course you will be imagining the worst until you have confirmation one way or the other. Try to deal with the 'here and nows' rather than the 'what if's'. You have wasted no time in getting attention and your dr is on the ball so you are doing all the right things.
Cross each bridge as you come to it. The benefits of your own experience will have you on top of all that is necessary to leave no stone unturned.
Best wishes from way Down Under
Deborah

Hi All,

Neil has been to the hospital today and they have confirmed that his Lingual Tonsil is swollen.

They have given him some mouthwash to use 4 times a day for the next 2 weeks and he has another appointment to see the consultant on the 20 Sept. He did say that he is sure there is nothing sinister and will see how it reacts to the mouthwash.

What was interesting is that my husband is on quinniun (excuse the spelling) sulphate, for severe cramps and they reckon this could be causing the swelling. We'll see what happens in the next 4 weeks.
