Hi! My name is Paul (Murgy) and I'd like to take this opportunity to tell you my story.
In July 2000 I discovered a white 'blob' in my mouth. Although it bothered me a bit, like most people, I thought it would go away on its own. WRONG! Four months later, in November, I was forced to go and see my doctor. He immediately referred me to a Specialist who, after looking at the 'blob' and taking some samples for testing, made an appointment for me to return to the hospital a week later for the results but, they were 99% certain it would prove to be cancerous. 'CANCER' - I was going to die!! The next seven days were a big worry as I only wanted to concentrate on the 1% of the tests being negative. The day of the appointment arrived and the results proved to be positive. Mr. Worral (the Surgeon) told me that there was no need to delay the inevitable and I was in hospital and operated on only a matter of 13 days later. No six month wait for me! Although I have had to return for a couple of minor cosmetic operations since (relating to the same problem) I have been told that I am now in the clear. All the cancer has gone. I'll have to attend as an out-patient for a while but this does not bother me because I am alive and well. The moral is, if you find something not quite right, then please seek medical advice IMMEDIATELY. It may prove to be nothing at all but, if it DOES reveal a problem, then the sooner it is dealt with the better for you and your loved ones. Don't wait for it to go away on its own because, as in my case, it wouldn't have done so and I could very well have died. The care and attention I received throughout my ordeal has been exemplary and I will forever be grateful that such people were there right when I needed them. If my message helps just ONE person to live then I can rest assured that I have done my best to pass on my own experiences with a killer problem and have survived to tell the tale. MURGY |

Hi Murgy
Thanks for your story. Early detection through self-awareness is the key. I am sure that if you knew what you know now you wouldn't have delayed seeing your doctor for 4 months! Best wishes Vinod :coffee: Disclaimer: Please see your own dentist/doctor for a proper diagnosis as my words should not, in any circumstances, be taken as dental/medical advice. HI Paul, I am glad you are do positive and are doing OK.
I had a white lump in the bottom of my mouth for months and my GP(saw2) was treating me for infections and I had a Dentist appointment and he made it possilble for me to go to my local Hospital for a biopsy and I waited a week and they said """it was clear""" I yhanked god and went on holiday and the last few days i started getting lumps in my neck on immediatly on return contact the Hospital whichn had closed there unit down and they referrred me to the Eastman Dental here in London who put me onto Maxiofacial at the Middlesex Hospital and another biopsy was done ansd a week late I was told I had Cancer, Well the rest is history I had the Cancer taken out my mouth & neck then 36 goes at radiation and I also lost part of my tongue and my speech is affected badly, Like you I felt good to be alive until last Tuesday I went to Maxiofacial for my monthly chech up and they found another lump and they did a biopsy straight away and I have to wait until Tuesday for the result. I am more terrified this time as I think it is just going to keep going on and on until the day they tell me there is nothing more they can do.At 43 I feel now I have had the best of my life! Paul |

Hello Paul.... You seem to be of few who take it upon themselves to go get things checked out, good for you and i glad to hear you are on the road to normality,if there is such a thing after what you have been through. My dad left it for about a year and a half before he finally went to the dentist, now he has cancer on his tongue and they say it's malignant and advanced,i cannot tell you the frustration of thinking that if only he had gone in earlier, when the ulser first appeared, maby just a minor surgery would of been enough, but now he needs major surgery and i dont know what will happen to him, what the major surgery entails or anything, rest assured you loved ones will be proud you got yourself sorted, and took a great big sigh of relief when you got the all clear!
Good for you and all the best for the future. |
