Hi Shona, I'd never used a forum before this one really but it's ideal. You'll get plenty of answers and support here, all you have to do is ask. It can be a tough journey but there are plenty of people here that have come through it all. All the best to you and your husband. Hagg.
At last, 11 YEARS and still kicking it. |

Hi Shona,
So very glad you found this site. You'll get lots of answers and lots of support. I read the links that Dr. Joshi provided as I know nothing about ACC and was happy to read that it's a rare slow growing cancer with usually an excellent prognosis. Lots of info to pour over. Best of luck to you and your family. Mimi |

thank you everyone for your replies.I have a lot of reading and learning to do. I am not the one going through this illness and as a result focus on practicalities and keep the smile plastered on .It is really interesting for me to read about peoples emotional responses and how they feel after surgery/radiationI hope this will help me with my husbands journey as Iknow he will not say how he feels (a combination of being a man and trying to protect his family). His emotions are the only things he has control over now.He hates how he has to put all his trust in outside agencies He has always been used to being the decision maker.

Shona,
First let me say "welcome" and then tell you I have no experience in the cancer type you mentioned. In the states I've used a 24/7 manned hotline with the American Cancer Society 800-ACS-2345. Perhaps you have something similar in Scotland as this is an international group. I found it very helpful and the people on the other end are very support of the care givers like yourself and will assist from that perspective. You're role is so very important and sometimes overlooked as the attention is on your husband. Just know that you're not alone and many have gone through this before as a care giver....find what works for you to support your husband, take some time for you (when you can) and gain as much info as possible. The unknowns make it more frightening... best wishes to you and your husband. by the way, I enjoyed your country last Sept and acted like a tourist in Edinbourgh and surrounding areas.... lovely stay Again best wishes, bob (pembo) |

Dear Shona, do you live anywhere near a Maggies Centre ? There are 6 of them in Scotland. You can just walk in & you will be made very welcome. They can provide lots of information , helpful support,& shoulders to cry on. If you Google,"Maggies centres, Scotland " you will find the location of ,hopefully, one near you. All the best, Fran.
