Tobacco use and throat cancer

10 days and counting. I quit with those commit tablets. I need those now! I feel like I'm trading one drug for another. I joined one of those sites you (Mimi) suggested. truthfully its not as easy to reply as this site (my replies always come back as not sent). My thraot feels almost normal so of course I'm making mental "deals" with myself. For example would one or two chews a week really hurt me? I know thats stupid and i'm going to try to stick with this. I teach with a woman who smoke one a day and she said "ah it'll never hurt me. I don't think i'm in that same boat. Obviously my throat wants no more of it. I've asked the ENT how such limited tobacco use could be causing this reaction and he is stumped for an answer. I'm not the "can a day" type on these other websites...I kept it in check. Yea i'll keep checking in...you guys have been great. i'll say a prayer for you and please do the same for me.

Hi Randy
Keep up the good work ~ no tobacco a day is the way to go because ANY amount can hurt you. Trevor has never, EVER been a smoker and we all know about his trip to hell on the cancer express.
There will be no prayers from me however there will be loads (and loads!) of positive vibes and good wishes coming your way. I wish you nothing but the best for your quitting.
My very best friend in the whole world (and beyond, I think) has been a heavy smoker since before we met back in 1969. She has tried so many different things to give up and finally succeeded this year using tablets AND patches! I am so proud of her and hope with everything I've got to hope with that she has escaped without any cancer. I don't think smokers (or tobacco users) appreciate what their loved ones go through each and every time they have to watch the light catch on the end of a cigarette. I knew that if my girlfriend ended up with smoking induced cancer I would be beside myself with grief while at the same time wanting to wring her neck for putting us all through the cancer ordeal. For your loved ones, if not yourself STAY AWAY FROM THE BACCY!
Happy Christmas and best wishes for 2009.

Hi Randy

Deborah is right - now you have given up for 10 (11?) days it would be a huge mistake to have any tobacco at all. I was quite a heavy smoker before I gave up nearly 30 years ago and I always felt that if I had even one cigarette I would be back on 30 a day before I knew it. The fact that you are still considering using a bit demonstrates that you are addicted. And even very limited use can have a serious effect on susceptible people (and you, or your friend won't know if you are one of those until its too late!).

Do keep it up - you are doing so well.

Best wishes (and more positive vibes).

Have a great (tobacco free) Christmas and New Year.

Gwyn

Hey, Randy!

Thinking about you and know how difficult it can be over the holidays. Hope you're hangin' in there - and if you aren't, you can start all over again. No penalties!

I can think up more nasty stuff if you need it -let me know! I've been delving into photography and videos (I've upgraded from previous photo work) and perhaps can make some really nasty vids for you. Don't make me do it! I'm a busy woman.

Remember what everyone has said and what AA, NA and all the other *A programs say, "You can't just have one."
