I am a journalist for a college magazine who has a brother that was just diagnosed with moutha and tongue cancer
I just beat breast cancer myself and I wrote about my fears, When I say I beat cancer it is because the mass on both of my breats seems to be gone now. I had a mammogram and then an ultra-sound to follow up.
It has raised my awareness and something I hadn't expected. I got a tremendous amount of relief when I joined a breast cancer forum and got answers to questions I was deeply in need of knowing about.
Now I am blown away by my brother's diagnosis
Thank god it hasn't spread to his lymph glands but the road ahead is going to be pretty bumpy with a series of chemo and radiation.
He has lost a lot of weight all ready because of his sore throat and tongue.
I noticed your web-site because I wanted to be involved or write about your walk in October. I was disappointed to learn it was located in a place I can't get to as well as my brother this year. It got me wondering if there are any similar walks being planned for the US.
I am going to suggest to my brother to get online with you folks who seem so positive and upbeat despite the obvious hardships and medical steps that some have gone through. There is truly a community spirit and I want to add that our ancestors came from Liverpool. Is that a good thing ? lol

Hi Diana, sorry to hear about your brother, do get him to join the site, it's a great place to get info from others who have been through it. Family, friends and carers visit too so keep in touch yourself aswell just a chat can help if you are feeling down or worried. Congratulations on your own recovery, it's a boost to hear of survivors which ever part of the body the cancer has decided to show itself.
I'm about to start RT myself on the 2nd July (been delayed because of operation difficulties) and I know I can ask anything I need to know here and get a response or even have a good old moan, there is always someone who will give tips or pick you up if down.

Thanks to everyone who replied to my message about my brother and his recently diagnosed mouth cancer. I am so happy to report that the chemo is doing it's job. He can talk better now as the tumor is being reduced. He has a tumor on his tongue and polyps on his inside cheek. He will start taking radiation treatments next week. He was told that his is a very active cance but it responds well to chemo. I guess that would qualify as the good and bad news designation.
I love the expression someone wtote to me " when you need a good old moan". Well, I hope you don't mind me qouting you.
