Hi Everyone, I am brand new to the site.

In late February this year my dad was diagnosed with mouth cancer. He has been incredible strong so far, and has been an inspiration to myself, my mum and my sister. So far he has an operation that removed a lot of the floor of his mouth, some of his tongue and both his lymph nodes. Last night we were told that as well as radiation therapy, Dad will need Chemo as well.

Until this point I had felt really strong, but for some reason this news (although mentioned earlier and not a complete shock) has really knocked me for six.

Anyway, thats me so far.....we're now preparing for the next set of hurdles, adn I thought it was time I sort some kind of outside support.

Hi Rachel,
This is definately the place for support. People on here are amazing and knowledgeable.
I'm not surprised you've been knocked for six by your dads diagnosis, it's a worrying time.
Everyone reacts differently to chemo, for some it's not such a rough ride, and others it's a definate challange.
I wish you all the best.
Let us know how your dad gets on.
Michelle

Hello Rachel

So sorry to hear about your Dad. It is totally devastating I know.

My husband has just had his first lot of chemo and he is so much better then I could possibly have expected and the treatment seems to be working, the secondaries on his neck are visibly reduced (he tumour/s were too bad for surgery)

I honestly dont know how I would have managed without the friendly support and knowledge of the people on this site.

Keep your chin up Rachel, as everyone here will tell you, be positive, keep your Dad and your family positive and keep us posted.

Angie
