HI Nigel, I had a peg fitted before my operation and & Radio.
I did not find it that bad. I had it for nearly too years as they were worried about the soreness of my neck inside.
The only thing I did not like was when it was blocked but coke I found the best thing to unblock.
I had 36 radio and was very bad with soeres and what felt like burns inside and out and my botom lip swelled up and still like that now.
I wish yuo well and let us know hows its going

Thanks Paul really good to see things going in the right direction.

I am suprised to see the discussion back onto PEG as on a personal view I have dealt with this in earlier posts.

There is a fine line between support and blind advice. If I am honest I have not found the support I wanted on this site but the sharing of experiences which have not proved helpful.

The medical professionals have pulled no punches with me but I am suprised that there has been a re-inforcement of the "fear" factor by some here.

This is my last posting I wish everyone well and in particualr those who have taken the trouble to contact me personally and give me their own experiences rather than "fear"

Whats the latest Nigel? I guess things are getting a little tougher about now and eating will be getting difficult if not impossible. Let us know how you are doing? If you find throat pain hard to deal with...try cocaine mouthwash. That stuff was a godsend to me.

Well it is 2 weks since I have been out of hospital and 19 days since the end of RT. 33 fractions and boy it hurt.

I had the syringe driver taken out today first time since I went into hospital some weeks ago.

At one stage even with 50ml of morphine in my saddle I could not speak, had to write things down for nurses because things were bad. Now thinsg are much better.

I have a NG tube at the moment but now my throat is getting better starting to drink normally and take laods of fluid inside me. I am also on the food, liquid stuff but it is working slowly. If I am honest I should of taken advice and had a PEG but hey too late now. I wish I was strong enough to listen.

I have lost 2 stone in weight, part of that is the not drinking and part of that of the radical treatment I am just in my BMI range now having become very fat to prepare for treatment.

Nights are hards at the mo through dry mouths but mouthcwashes have been stars.

In myself I feel good, everyone says I look godo and have that twinkle in my eye again, I have been through a lot but listening to my bosy, if it tells me to sleep I sleep, if not I read, watch TV see friends and potter.

Thursday is my next big day OT appointments looking at my swaallowing which is good, boy have I been practicing. And hopefully NG tube out and back to semi normality.

Thanks for your help, apologies for biting peoples heads off but got through it in the end.

If anyone is interested I have writeen a blog of my experiences please forgive me being angry I am human after all, just read it as a frightened man in pain. http://nigelgooding.blogspot.com

I have to go now as I am having sweet pots mashed with gravey mmmmm but one thought before you go:

"Radiotheraphy Chemotherapies are hard but they do not kill you"

So see them as treatment no matter how painful, pain is only temporary and we can all hear the words recovered. You recover from treatment not the cnacer in my case the treatemnt helped me in my fight recovering from cancer."

Hello Nigel

Good to know you are improving. You are definitely not underweight; I am only 65kg!Smiler

Everone's experience is slightly different but gradually a consensus experience builds up that is useful to others. It is only meant to help, never prescriptive as everyone is different and there are always options and each options has its advantages and disadvantages! So you are okay with us. We are only here to help.

Interesting blog. Would you like it linked on the MCF site as a patient experience?

Best wishes

Thanks Dr

Great news I do feel like a new bloke, loads of energy as well but no weight, slightly over the bmi but so what.

I am going swimming to build my muscle back up one length a day so just one length today, 2 tomorrow etc, all in the name of getting back to health.
