Hi to everyone.
My dad was diagnosed for saquamous cell carcinoma in March-08 and was operated on 1st April at Bombay Hospital,Mumbai(India).
His front part of tongue and lymph nodes were removed (partial glassechtomy) and new flap was implanted .After that combined radiotherapy and chemotherapy was done.
He coped well during chemo and radiotherapy. He can eat khichdi and rice now.
I have learnt that cancer may repeat itself. How one can prevent from recurrence? Can anyone suggest and help me?

I don't think you can stop it Mad If he avoids smoking and alcohol there are cancer fighting foods he could eat.

Good luck.

Like Chloe says, if you stop the smoking and alcohol that'll help but luck has a lot to do with it too.
I still like a drink or 3 but I did give up smoking, a bit like bolting the stable door once the horse has bolted giving up the fags after the event though Smiler.
Good luck for the future. Hagg.

It took me 7 years after my last treatment and ops to give up Yikes. If I make it to 65 I'm going to start again Chloe. After that I'll give up the healthy living and hope for the best, Haze is going to do the same so we can get old and ill together. Hagg.

Thanks to all of you for providing information and support.Actually he rarely used to smoke and drink. And after the surgery there is no chance at all.
Can anyone tell that the root cause is genetic?

Hi Anush,
My name is Ananth. Just to reply to your question. Cancers are normally not genetic as per the latest reports (though debatable in the case of breast cancers). I really dont think cancer decides to come around just onto people who smoke more or drink more. Its just a matter of choice and one just becomes the chosen one. Nothing much one can do about it.
welcome to write in when ever you want.
warm regards,
Ananth
