My friend has gone into hospital today to have a operation to remove the cancer in his throat and neck. I am trying to be strong but I am scared that I will brake down in front of his wife.

She is coming to stay with us as she has no-one else, I don't want her to be alone.

Any suggestions would be great. :help:

We all feel stuck, maybe almost paralysed, when a friend of ours receives some bad news (even if things later work out much better than we feared at first). You will find these posts of some help.

The Cancer Guides and patient stories will also help you understand your friend's and his wife's feeings. Keep us informed how your friend gets on - we are always here to listen and help where we can.

I can tell you from my own experience just be u..We want real feelings,,,all the jokes, flowers, cards are very very nice but the bottom lineisour whole life has just flipped upside down and we are scared to death..So u don't have to be funny or cheerful,,just be you loving your friend, wife, husban, sister and so on...I know my sister thinks she has to call and be so HAPPY with me..She doesn't tell me things like she did before,, she stopped talking to me and started this new talking around me..Like I don't know what life is,,just be yourself....Our lives have forever changed so don't try to act as if everything is going to be just fine,,,Everything is what it is right now..One minute, second, hour, hopefully we will get to day at a time...This is scary so you do for your friend what you would want your friend to do for u...Hope this helps,, Always,,Vicki Lynn
