Hi Cathy,

We had a very nice XMas even though the in laws couldnt make it because of the weather! Not a big loss!
Unfortunately I can't stop thinking that it could be the last one or the last peaceful one!
I saw few more consultants for second opinions and the prognosis is the same. I have decided to have surgery on the two nodules in February and at least this will provide me with a biopsy and confirm their diagnosis. You never know maybe they are benign? Pigs might fly!!!!!
I hope you had a good XMas?

HAPPY NEW YEAR

ALL THE BEST
LONIX

Hi Loni,

Was just reading through your profile and I noticew you had exactly the same cancer as my mother, she had cancer of the tonsil and 1 lymph. She was diagnosed around August 2009.

They offered mom IMRT, but the oncologist recommended that beause the lymphnode was involved he would rather she had traditional Radiotherapy, as it would give the whole Head and neck area a dose of the Radiation.

While IMRT has fewer side effects I wonder if more research should be done on it if it leaves rogue cancer cells.

My mom still suffers from a dry mouth but touch wood she is ok other than that.

Hope you haave enjoyed christmas, it must be really tough for you and your family.

Happy new Year to you Loni. I hope all goes well with the operation. From what I have read, this sounds like the most promising route to take so will keep my fingers crossed.

Best wishes,

Cathy

Hi
Sorry for the long interlude!! Unfortunately I stayed in hospital 7 weeks instead of 1 after my lung operation to remove the 2 nodules! I had a horrendeous times as suddenly I couldnt swallow or drink after the op. I was given exercises to improve the swallowing and sent home with an NG Tube and after a further 4 weeks I can now eat sort of normally like before.
Just before the op a third nodule was detected on the scan but they couldnt operate on that as it is on the other side. Since then there are 'peripheral nodules' in the lining of the lung whataver that means.
I am in a real quandry as what to do next as I dont seem to get any clear advice re whether to start the chemo cycle now or wait for symptoms. As I suffered so much in the last few months I have decided to wait a little bit. I know that when I start the chemo I will feel terrible for the next 6 months!!! I remember only too well how I felt last year when my treatment was ONLY one cycle!!
If anybody can offer any advice on whether it makes any difference to start now or wait I would be very grateful.I know that I havent got too long in this planet but I would love to buy time just in case a 'miracle cure' is round the corner??

Bye for now
LONI

Hi Loni

The best person to advise you on this will be your oncologist. The decision will still be yours.

Best wishes

Hi Loni

Great to hear from you, but so sorry you have had such a bad time. No-one can really advise you except the professionals, but the only thing I would say is follow your instincts! Sounds like you definately need a period of recuperation now, and your family will probably really enjoy some time with you being well. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Thinking of you and sending you a big hug.

Hi Loni,

Big hugs to you. I know that Dennis Iris's husband on the tonsil cancer blog didnt start chemo for a few years after it was discovered, but have heard of others starting straight away. So I dont really know. I suspect it depends on the precise nature of the cancer and the location?

I hope you are feeling a bit better after that operation hell.
