tongue cancer?

Hi. I have a question and I hope you all don't mind me coming here for I didnt know anywhere else and came upon this site a couple days ago so here is my question. Recently my b/f noticed a blue line on bottom of my tongue to me it looked like busted blood vessel and has a small bump that you can feel. anyway I remembered that a few mths back I had a place on the side of my tongue that looked like a lump and hurt slightly at first. Upon feeling it and looking you can feel a lump around the size of a bean or a little larger there so I decided to contact Dr about it. I am an ex-smoker quit about 5or 6 yrs ago but started at 12 and didnt stop until 26 or so I am now 33. Back to it the Dr said he didnt like the looks of it and wanted me to have it looked at. thing is I dont have job or insurance and lots of medical debt already from previous visits and last yr. miscarriage so they couldnt find a surgeon to look at it because of this and have made an appt. with ENT dr for tomorrow. I am so worried about this for so many reasons I had a my friend/roommate die at 36 of bone cancer and it was fast and very debilitating I cant even think about it 2 much even though it has been yrs. ago the things that happened. I am scared that it will be cancer and because of no money and insurance I will be written off and not receive the kind of treatment I would need. Not even sure if I have asked a question and sry so long. Does this sound like possible tongue cancer and any thoughts on if it is how I will proceed considering the financial circumstances that I have. Any thoughts or feelings will be appreciated. thank you and God bless

Hi,
Like Dave and Sue said, please get it checked, it may turn out to be nothing to worry about. Sorry I have no idea about your insurance worry.
Is FL Florida? If it's not sorry for being thick!! There are visitors to this site from all over the world. I hope that someone reads your post and is able to help with that answer. Good luck with your appointment and let us know how you get on.

from Dr Spiller's website:
quote:
If you look carefully at this image, you will note some blue tinted tissue under the tongue and in the floor of the mouth. These represent the presence of superficial veins that run in this area, and they are called varicosities. Their presence is normal, becoming more and more prominent as the patient ages.

Hope that helps put your fear into perspective. It may not be anything serious, but do ask a dentist as they see more underside of tongues!

thanks for your info doc but problem is I am not concerned about the blue spot that b/f noticed it only reminded me of a bump on the side of my tongue that has been there for a few mths. with no change in size the lump is about the size of a bean or little more. I had forgotten about it since it didnt hurt until b/f noticed the other blue "spot". I am going to ENT dr today so I will see what he thinks.

ok me again just went to ENT dr and he said that it was a hemangioma. I know this is going to sound paranoid but could he know it's not cancerous strictly by looking at it for 30 seconds? I don't think the size has changed but of course I am not certain of this. Just know that doctors can be wrong was told I wasnt pregnant when I miscarried with twins 6 wks later so just want to know that this isnt another mistake that will cost me dearly. Sry for the skepticism. thank you and God bless
