Under my tongue and lower gums feel sore all the time, at one time they burned as well. I went to the dentist and he said he didnt see anything of concern in my mouth. Its been 2 months and my mouth is still uncomfortable most of the time. I dont see any visual sores, patches or anything .....is this a sign of cancer? I have heard of burning motuh syndrome but wow, how can something like that feel so bad?
I am so sorry to hear about all the cases on here. I have smoked for 30 years so, cancer wouldnt surprise me. I am going to my GP monday and it just turns my stomach to think of the possibilities.
Thanks for any replies!

Hi tomjanefan

You're making a good start by going to the doctor on Monday--I hope everything turns out well for you. After that, the best thing for you to do would be to quit smoking.

I've never heard of burning mouth syndrome, but I can't imagine that it's anything but unpleasant. My cancer started out as a bump on the underside of my tongue that didn't hurt at all until it started growing, and then it kind of itched. Online diagnosis is impossible, and I've found that disease-related research online generally results in worst case scenarios.

I know you've got a long, difficult weekend ahead of you (we've all been there) but please try to relax. When you go to the doctor on Monday, please take someone with you--they'll be more likely to remember details, and the moral support won't hurt.

Please let us know how things turn out.

Julia

hello tomjanefan
follow up anything that is uncomfortable there has to be a reason. I would follow up more with dentist, they are better up with anything to do with the mouth. My mouth was very uncomfortable for quite a while, I was a big smoker. I could not smoke for a few weeks before surgery or since it makes a difference no sore tung.

I am finding it a big struggle to stay off them at the moment. It was the dentist that spotted my problem. I had been with the doctor six months before that and the ulcer was noticed but I was told to come back if it did not heal, but as things happen I was doing a course and did not want to take time out left it on the long finger.
Now I have regrets cant do anything about it now, have to go with the flow hope for the best, by the I had no pain in the ulcer.
best of luck tomjanefan

Hi, thanks for your reply. Sorry to hear that your ulcer was more than an ulcer. I dont have any ulcers, just constant soreness in my mouth. Dentist couldnt find a reason but I am telling GP about it monday.
So it was smoking making your mouth/tongue sore....not the ulcer? I guess smoking could cause it.
