Hello all.

I'm 48, got diagnosed with tonsil cancer that had spread to a lymph node in February '04. Had ratiation only from March through June, and now check out cancer-free.

Eating is still really difficult. I now eat spam, corned beef hash, eggs over easy, milk shakes, yogurt smoothies, horchata, ice cream mixed with milk, Lucky Charms with milk, Stouffer's casseroles, frozen processed dinners like meat loaf with mashed potatoes, eggnog, and that's about it. I'm maintaining my weight (barely), but I'm concerned about cholesterol and interested in any tips.

I also take vitamins.

SmilerHi Ron sounds like we have had a same type of problems; I am now gaining weight, but I forced myself to eat large amounts of rice during treatment;I have now moved on to pasta with salmon in a bechamel sauce with cheese;I do lots of stews, mainly lamb as beef is hard to swallow, I eat a great deal of fish, loads of brocoli, and pureed vegatables, and I have an american champion juicer, so I have a great deal of fresh juice; I have a fruit and veg market near to me so I get loads of fresh veg.
I was told I had the classic cancer of the heavy smoker and drinker, I have never smoked and only drank good bordeaux.Did you smoke? Smiler

I never did smoke either, so it does not seem fair. Who do we see to complain about that? I did drink some, and am now sober in A.A. for fourteen years.

A couple of months ago, my wife and I spotted an old smoker in her car, and I started to make fun of the way she probably talked. Then I realize I was talking that way all the time anyway.

Maybe I should be juicing, and giving salmon another run. The last time I tried salmon it was just too dry and chewy.

SmilerPaul sorry that you do not seem, pleased with me asking if Ron smoked; It was a great shock to me when last november I was told I had the classic cancer of the heavy smoker; I can tell you that really pxxxxd me off; when I see people that fill them selves up with garbage fast foods, smoke so you can't stand next to them in a shop and stink of booze; that all pxxxs me off big time. I have just spent three hours in ENT at Charing Cross Hospital and witnessed some sorry sights. I can tell you I am angry too with the life I have had bringing up a son with multiple handicaps and blind to boot; working all hours God sends; and never sponging of the state; and look what good it has done me.I saw the overweight nutricianist; Frankly I know more about food and eaten better than she will ever know.Really pxxxxd off

HEy HEy HEY, We are all supposed to be "TOGETHER" in all this...It really doesn't matter if we smoked or we didn't smoke--DOES IT?..WE STILL ALL DO HAVE CANCER! DON'T WE? So let's not spend what time we DO have quarrling over that point. No one will ever win. For those that did smoke have it and those that didn't smoke have it...SO WHAT IS THE POINT?? There is no point. SO please let's try to stay focused on what this site is all about....HELPING each other. Caring for each other. Loving each other. It is okay to have an opinion but let's not argue to the point that we aren't friends at the end.....PLEASE. You are all some of us have to talk to.....There is no sense to ask WHY? There is no answer to that question..If you smoke that is the reason why. If you don't smoke HUMM---they have no answer to why...So please don't even ask that question. BECAUSE THEY DO NOT KNOW WHY????? If they knew "WHY" there may be a cure. So let us all PLEASE PLEASE be friends and help each other thru some of the hardest times we will ever ever endure in our lifetime.....Vicki Lynn

Vickie,

Smoothly commented upon. But all this smoking business evolved out of a genuinely innocent comment. I noted no intended animosity from anyone. From my experience of this great forum, I have found all contributors generous and caring... you particularly.

Regards, Fridge

SmilerThank you Fridge, my reason for asking whether Ron smoked; I was told by my surgeon that the cancer I had used to be found only in heavy smokers and there must be a reason why so many none smokers are getting throat cancer; I have searched for many answers, I am O+ Blood group, many get stomach cancers and not head and neck cancers, that is why I am interested in DNA, I think every person who gets any illness, Cancer, parkinsons,M.S. should be logged for DNA, and blood type and location where born, there has to be a reason,Carpal syndrome has been traced back to the vikings( tightening of the sinew in the hand.Sorry I upset Vicki Lynn, but very glad to see she is back on line as I was worried.By the way England was always known for free speach.

Hello to all my buddies on here. I am not upset at all. No no no. Garance I am not upset with you. No way. We all have a voice and that voice should be heard. No matter who is ticks off. Don't you agree? Lord knows I spout off at the mouth more times than I dare to admit. I just want to make sure that we all remain friends at the end of the day. I don't know about the rest of you, but I "NEED" all of you. You are all I have to "REALLY" talk to about things. I mean I have a huge family but they are so afraid that I just cannot lay all this on them. I don't lie to them. If they ask me I tell them--it is just that they don't ask. It is out of fear I am certain. I just can't afford to lose anymore friends to this damm disease. I have already lost so many. They just don't know what to do or what to day. Ignorance is all I can think of. You know whenever a friend of mine got sick I always and I do mean always, looked up the disease or illness and tried to find anyway, some way, somehow to help them thru whatever it was that they were going thru. But that is just me. Most of the people that I thought were my friends hung in there for almost a year. So can't fault them I guess. It sure gets lonely tho, all alone without the outside world around you like you once had. I am learning to cope with that. I have never been a stay at home mom or person. I have always worked, since I can remember. So this is all new to me. I remember when I was working I used to dream about the day when I didn't have to anymore. LOL..The joke is on me. For here I am and I am bored to tears. Thought about going back partime, there is just no way. WEll thank you all for listening to me rattle on and on. I start talking and don't know when to stop......Take care always, Vicki Lynn

Hi Vicki Lynn, I am still interested in the DNA of every one who has cancer of which ever part of the body. i.e. the women of Japan, are not supposed to get breast cancer or suffer from meno pause problems and we are told this is dur to diet; It first I was relieved to find out why I had been so tired and I felt, at last I have an answer, however one year on the anger is on the rampage, as I am still exhausted, and want to be back to my old self, doing several things at once. Got the Flue and super fed up, and it is grey and raining here in London. Banghead Where is Paul ???
