Hi David,
It's good to hear how well your daughter is doing. I'm sure her speech will improve with time, as will her eating. Trying hard and a positive attitude is what helped me get through the last year. I had skin and tissue grafts to my upper palate, bone and tissue grafts to my lower jaw and neck dissection. This was followed by a course of radio therapy and chemo therapy. I had a lot of pain down to my shoulder at first, but this too has improved with time. I also get a lot of stiffness around my jaw and neck, but like you said, it's a small price to pay. Wish your daughter all the luck in the world and have a great time in Devon. My husband and I went to Devon for a week in May to the Fire Service Recuperation Centre in Chudleigh. Such a beautiful place to relax and enjoy! Lots of love to you all x

Hi All, just an update on Dawn. She is doing fine, although still has a speech impediment and a horrendous scar on her neck.

Today her boyfriend Matt, asked me whether he could marry Dawn.

A father always looks for something special in a prospective son in law, we found that in Matt during Dawn's encounter with this awful disease. He was fantastic and a great source of stregth to us all. Of course I said yes and we are looking for engagement celebrations tomorrow, and a much loved addition to our family.
Trust you are all well. lots of love, David.

Hi David,
It's great to hear the good news about your daughter; happy to hear she's getting married and happy to hear she is recovering well. I hope she isn't bothered by her scars - tell her to wear them with pride. Best wishes to you all and good luck with the wedding plans.

Hi All, thanks for your best wishes. Dian, you say dawn should wear her scars with pride, she makes no attempt to cover them up and refers to them as her bsttle scars and /or badge of honour. Take care and best wishes. David.

Hi everyone, just got back with Dawn from seeeing her consultant, after what has been a worrying two weeks. Dawn has had a burning sensation at the end of her tongue for three weeks now and pains in her jaw. Anyway after x rays she was given the ok. The burning sensation on her tongue is due to post op healing and is likely to remain this way for the foreseeable future, the jaw ache is due to a damaged nerve in a rear tooth and will require root canal treatment. What a relief. What have been your experiences 6 months post op after tongue surgery? What constitutes normal for you?
Best wishes to everyone and keep positive.

love david.

To all on the forum best wishes for 2010, and may all your treatments be successful. Dawn is progressing well and hopes to go to two monthly reviews in the New Year. This disease sucks and can be devastating to sufferes and carers alike. I've had my rant and hope that 2010 is full of sunshine and Bollinger.
Take care and God bless to you all.

Regards, David.

Chrissie,

so happy to hear your good news. yes, every day is a gift and it sounds like you make the most of it.

hard for me to describe, but every day when i wake up i just marvel at the gift of life and look forward to the day ahead of me. yes, some days are better than others. however, i attempt to live every day like it will be my last. this is my receipe for living. our actions inspire others whom we come in contact as we continue on this journey of life.

Hi all, is a long ime since I last posted but would like to give you all an update on Dawn's progress. She is doing well and still in remission and is now on 2 monthly reviews. The scar on her neck is hardly noticeable and her speech is almost back to normal.

The great news is she got married to Matt on New Year's Eve. A wonderful day and fulfilled my promise to her after the second operation that I would walk her down the aisle. The amazing thing was that her consultant came to wedding, what a wonderful man. It was an emonionally charged day, and when I saw her for the first time in her dress I completely lost it. A truly rare father-daugher moment. The only time I saw her looking so beautiful was the first time I saw her 32 years ago. They are now on honeymoon in Thailand.

I trust you are all well and progressing. Take care and God bless.
