Hi all .I'm sat here drooling :-)) well sucking tea from a straw and reading.I briefly had a look when I was diagnosed a few weeks back but it was too frightning to read what "may happen" .Now I've had the area cut out I'm feeling a little more brave. My name is Susie and in November I had a white patch and a very sore and red tongue.Thought it was thrush so phoned up for some Nystan to treat it.When that didn't make a difference I actually went in to the surgery and the doctor referred me to the maxo facial unit "just to be on the safe side".A couple of weeks later I went and a week later a biopsy was done of the area.Everyone from my dentist told me "don't worry ,I don't think its anything but........sadly it was .I had the operation to excise the area in question last Tuesday. They warned me of a lack of symmetry afterwards and I nodded not really taking in what was being said .When I woke up it "clicked" when I saw how lopsided my mouth now looks and my lips were involved too. I'm hoping that they can work some magic and give me back working lips because right about now I'm discovering that drooling is not a great look and mash squirting out the corner of your mouth is yuck lol You sort of feel way out of line complaining about the slightest thing on here when you read the terrible traumatic times some of you have had to endure so I'll shut up and put up and just say "hi" :-)

Hi Susie You certainly shouldn't 'put up and shut up'. This is a really tough ordeal you've found yourself in and no matter what anyone else has been through, this is your reality. Welcome aboard, anyway and be sure to post away for support or information from the members. There's always someone who has been there, done that, who is happy to share and help lighten your load. Keep us posted on your progress. Cheers from Down Under Deborah

Hi Susie Welcome aboard! Please don't feel out of line about complaining. Whether you commemorate, comiserate, whine/whinge, bitch or lurk (as the need and mood require), if someone here tells you they know what you're talking about THEY DO! Have your doctors indicated that the asymmetry might clear up in time, or recommend any exercises to help strengthen the muscles around your mouth? Keep in mind that it is early days; it's hard to say at this point exactly what might happen. When I went from the ng tube to gradually thicker stuff, I was told to tilt my head to the side opposite my surgery when I ate. I don't know if that's something you'd want to try, but it is an idea. Happy Valentine's Day! Julia Howdilly doodilly, survivorinos!

Hi Susie Don't worry -Sounds just like me! I had a wonky mouth after I had surgery in my mouth and my lymph nodes removed.I felt very embarrassed eating and drinking in front of other people and was convinced it would be like that forever! However it got better and went completely after about 2months.I'm sure it will be the same for you. Cheers Sandy

I've been back for a checkup today Sanjan and as youve said he told me early days and just to give it time :-) I'm impatient I know .The pathology on the deeper tissues was inconclusive but the peripherals were clear so good news. Guess its a waiting game to see if they got it all .thank you for all your replies :-)
