Hi. My sister in law has recently been on this site getting advice about the lump I have on my tongue (Charly). I returned home from Thailand Thursday and saw specialist. Underwent new biopsy which confirmed squamous carcinoma well presented. Yesterday underwent CT scan on chest and am booked for MRI scan next Wednesday. Following this I see surgeon again for operation to remove growth on tongue and lymph glands. Am eating well, feeling immensely strong, much more than before and am looking for support in these challenging times. Best wishes Nigel Martin

edited to give link to Charly's previous post.

Good afternoon Nigel,
Welcome to MCF.
Challenging times? yes they are, but there are a couple of thousand members of this site who faced the challenge and lived to tell the tale and now are eager to help any new member. So what ever you want to know ,ask and some one will offer the benefit of their own experience.
We are not an alternative to the professionals, we are a bunch of people who went down the same road ahead of you and know the way, we now view the problems from the inside....and the picture tends to be a little different.
Very best wishes Nigel please keep us posted.
Keep Smiling Razzer
John

Hello Nigel
Welcome, welcome.
Boy am I glad to hear from you! I'm very sorry that you need to come on board however after your Charly's post and your picture Trevor and I have been wondering how you were getting on.
Sounds like no-one is letting any grass grow under their/your feet in getting you into the treatment system. That's great.
As John, Hagg and Chelle have already said, you will get great support from everyone on the forum. Keep in touch and best wishes from Down Under.

Hi Nigel

Just to say that I am sorry you have had to join us and that I hope you will get as much support from this site as I have. I had an operation for squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue last October. I had to wait eight weeks from diagnosis for my op - hope your wait won't be as long. As Pauline said I made a point of eating as much good food as I could during this time and also tried to make sure that I did one nice thing every day to help me feel positive while I waited.

Hope all goes well for you.

Gwyn

Again, I am overwhelmed by peoples kind responses here. I was about to begin my dive business in Thailand, boat ready etc, and have many customers waiting, then this happens. I am told it will be earliest 7th April before surgery, in the meantime I adopt Gwyns advice and do at least one positive thing a day to others. I am also studying some scriptures from Buddhaghosa, providing some enlightenment, and am exercising thru walking a lot over the hills.

Trouble is I have never felt stronger or fitter, yet reality bekons and I must face this difficult period ahead.

Hope I can get back to normal this year. Best wishes Nigel

Hi Nigel
Do you know, Trevor (my husband) was also the fittest and healthiest he had been in probably 25 years which is how I first noticed the lump in his neck ~ he had lost a lot of weight and there it was! Doesn't seem fair, does it? Mind you I just think, thank God he lost the weight or I can't imagine how big it would've been hiding beneath his excess pounds! Also if he hadn't been so fit and healthy I can't imagine how he would've coped with his treatment.
Make the most of everything now, times are going to get tough and you will need all your strength and fortitude in the months ahead.
We'll all be there with you.
Take care.
Love
Deborah
