The last 18 months or so have been had work as the whole family is affected. He can speak with a slur, which has had he accused of being drunk when not. He is still in a lot of pain as the nerve endings have not gone back properly, How does anyone find this.

Hello Alison

It does get better with time, but life becomes different as the others will tell you.

Best wishes

Thanks for that encouragement. It does become difficult when Rick does not accept that his life has changed.

Hello Alison, My situation is similar to your husband's in some ways. I had my first op in March 2004 2/3rds tongue removed plus 2/3rds jawbone, neck disection etc. Had very little pain after. Cancer came back and had rest of jaw removed and replaced with bone from leg in July this year. Since then I have had dreadful pain but in the site of first op!! I am awaiting results of MRI scan but doctors think it is nerve pain and have referred me to a Pain Management Dept with a view to having a 'nerve block'. I have been seeing a Pain Doctor at my local hospice, who has increase certain tablets but nothing has eased the pain. It is making my life a misery. Once I get the scan results and hopefully learn there is nothing else going on then I will be counting the days to having a nerve block. I do sympathise with your husband and would be happy to exchange 'moans' if he wants to email me at brenda.brady@consil.co.uk. or on this site of course. Best regards Brenda.
