Lump on tongue

Hi everyone,

Just wanted some advice. My mom has now finished radiation for 2 months. she has rather large ulcers on both sides of her tongue caused by the radiation.

However when I was looking at them I noticed a lump next to the one ulcer, the skin is normal, however It looks like something is raised.

I called and arranged for mom to go to the clinic next friday, but it has scared me to death and am really worried.

I just wondered if anyone else had this, and if you lad any thoughts.

Longleggedhair,

I do occasionally get lumps on my tongue and in my mouth here and there but they go away usually in a week or so.

Hi Pam,

Ive spoken to moms oncologist and he thinks its most likely to be caused by the radiotherapy. but were booked in for Friday, just so they can check it over. he did say he doesnt want to do any biopsys though this soon.

Anyway Pam, hows it all going with you, my mom had carboplatin, and she did not loose her hiar, I thought carboplatin was one of the chemos where you kept your hair.

I hope its all going well for you Pam.

Longleggedhair,

You do not loose your hair with carboplatin but do with Taxol. I got both. I just shaved my head the other day. Actually hubby did just because we were tired of it being all over the place. I have not found chemo to be to bad as long as I stay on top of any nausea which I have been lucky and not really had any.

Best of Luck to your mom and I am sure it is just from the radiation. I have had numerous little bumps come up and last a couple days to a week. I use baby orajel on them and they go away as quick as they show up. I did get my first sore throat right before Thanksgiving and it was really different than any other sore throat I had in the past. But it was gone in about a week.
I was sure the cancer was now spreading to my tonsil. but it was just a sore throat was bright red and all. So fyi for your mom sore throats aren't the same after radiation either.
