Some of you may remember my question a while ago about the taste of food. I was worried that I would never be able to enjoy the taste of food again. Some of you reported your taste coming back which helped me so much. Well, yesterday I had a cherry yogurt which tasted delicous. A little while later, I had some black bean soup and it also tasted great. Went for a walk and I was so hungry. Had a blueberry yogurt.... UMMMMM!!1 So my taste and appetite are coming back which makes me so happy.

great your taste buds are returning. i still remember when i ate my first plain hotdog. it was so spicey. never knew they had any spice in regular hot dogs.

however, some food i have eaten my whole life doesn't taste good anymore. used to accuse my wife of changing the receipe. but the eating establishments i used to frequent also changed their receipes on me. finally figured out it was rads which changed the food for me. not a bad thing, since it is much easier for me to maintain my weight. don't forage for food as often. it was a year ago i started my radiation.

good luck with you taste & appetite.

Hi Laurel,

Fantastic news about enjoying food again!

May I ask how long ago you finished radiation. It's been a little over a month since I finished my radiation, but I still don't have my taste buds back yet. I'm still totally on my feeding tube, but did try a tiny (really tiny) piece of cheese today. Nope, didn't like it at all and I love cheese!

Great going, Cricket

Excellent news Laurel. I am now eating noodles, pasta and porridge. I have started taking Manuka honey in hot water as well - for it's beinficial anti something or others - I found some in Tesco for £4.47! (Tesco is one of our supermarkets)

I can taste everything fine - the mian problem I suffer from is acidity on my tounge due to mouth ulcers (still!). Tried melon yesterday and it relly burned Eeker I am now washing out my muth with TCP (which also burns Eeker) untill I see my consultant tomorrow!

Keep on trying

Love Chloex

Hello and thanks for your replies. Cricket, I finished up my radiation in Feb 08. I've been on the peg tube the whole time and I quess I started eating a tiny bit about March, but like you, Purplekitten, everything burned my tongue. I tried yogurt which stuck to my tongue like paba and burned, Even water burned. Most things tasted really crappy too. I would try to swollow, but food would just feel all sticky and icky in my throat. Ice cream was the first thing I cxould eat easily and enjoy. It's been a couple mounths since I could eat that. So I made some pretty good shakes out of frozen bananas, vanilla soy milk, protien powder, and ice cream. I loved the taste of adding berries, but they burn my throat. But now I can add blueberries and cherries to the list of foods I can eat. It's slow, Purple kitten. But I now have quite a few foods I can eat that taste pretty good. Good luck to all of your taste buds!
